I would like everyone to welcome Oti into the Diamond In The Ruff family! He’s a rescue, like his (very big) brother Zuki (who likes to sit in my lap when I tie my shoes though he’s like 70 lbs) Oti basically runs and is crazy until he decides he’s had enough and shuts down, which, fair, my dude… me too.
Remember Zuki? The coon hound/Berniese mountain dog possibly shepherd mix that would sit in my lap when I went to tie my shoes at a bench… welp… he’s still doing that… he’s just MUCH bigger! He’s so cute 🥰
This is Archie! He’s a golden doodle and has a ton of happy energy, however it sometimes comes out as jumping, mounting and pulling on clothes. He’s been doing walk and training with me for awhile now and we had our first hour long walk where he was a perfect gentleman! Loose leash walked with me or in heel, ignored other people, dogs, birds, squirrels and we got to do some training around loud yard equipment like in the video here! Good job Archie!
This is Freddie and Knuckles. Freddie used to be VERY reactive but with training and lots of walks to get him used to his triggers he’s much more calm! So now he’s made friends with the corgie Knuckles who has some pretty extreme reactivity issues to dogs, bikes and people. However when they walk together Freddie is teaching Knuckles the ropes on how to remain calm, take treats and ignore his triggers to gain confidence around things in the world that make him unsure. They’re the cutest little walking team!
Just a reminder that as we move into hotter weather to take breaks in the shade and give your dogs water on walks… belly rubs don’t hurt either. This is Knuckles and belly rubs are his kryptonite.
teaching Zuki the “Emergency Stop” command
I’m just out here on this beautiful day teaching Zuki the “emergency stop” command. He’s so smart and such a bag of cuteness. Possibly, a barrel of cuteness, if you will, as how I am unsure if his density and potency of cuteness can be contained by a mere bag. Imma go with barrel to be safe.
I was walking this super cute puppy, Zuki, down at the dikes then sat down to tie my shoe and he decided he needed a break too… my lap apparently looked more comfortable than the bench…
I went to tie my shoe on a bench while walking Zuki but he decided he needed to be front and center of ANY drama that happened while I sat down by frumping down in my lap. Like, Yas gurl, take yo space. Sames. I love Zuki so much it hurts.
Emergency Stop Command Training
This is one of my client’s wonderful dog, Penny. She’s a pretty excitable girl cause she’s got so much love to give so I’m teaching her “Emergency Stop”. This is when you put your hand in the air and call “Stop!” And your dog will sit their butt down where they are. It’s very useful in case they happen to be running towards a busy street or other dangerous situation. Penny is so smart and learning so fast! ❤️🦮
I don’t just walk dogs, I make them swim… and snort like an adorable water pig. We love you Rosie ❤️🏊🐕
Rosie and I had another awesome walk to a park we hadn’t been to before, Jordan Park. We “had a ball”!
I was walking Rosie today and working on her recall so she learns to come ALL the way to me. She’s incredible and I love her!
It’s starting to get dark earlier as summer is slowly turning into Canadian winter hellscape. Just remember that dogs that were adopted from other countries don’t really understand what’s going on and you may have to guide them through some weird behaviours they do while they navigate what storms, falling leaves and of course snow actually is. But sometimes they just shove their face in to it, full-bore, and accept it. Take the wins when you can.
