Meet Dandi Dog. This elusive husky has been around town for at least a year. Happy Tails has been trying to help her but we could never catch her.
Today was the day!! Dandi Shields managed to catch her long enough for us to get her to the adoption center. She’s had a parasitic bath, rubbed with coconut oil, had her ears cleaned and ate dinner.
Dandi Dog is going to make someone a fantastic dog!! Stay tuned on her progress 🐾🐾🐾💗

We’re 5 weeks old and super playful. We have one sister. She’s the gray tabby with white around her eyes. She thinks she’s all that because she’s the only girl. But whatevs. We’re all awesome pawsome!!!

Buffy (at right) found her furever home today! We couldn’t be more thrilled for and her new family. A huge thank you to The Mitchell clan. It was love at first sight. ♥️ Buffy is the first “city” dog to be adopted. She’s come a long way in 5 weeks.

We loved seeing all of the smiling faces at Saturday’s open house and live adoption event! Nine dogs and one kitten adopted their new furever families while guests were able to tour the Happy Tails facility and grounds. It was five weeks ago today, on July 21, when the former vet clinic of retired Dr. Robert Hughes was transformed into an animal shelter as City of Center Police Officers dropped off 10 dogs which had been discovered to be living in inadequate conditions.
While those 10 were not adopted at our August 24th event, the folks who attended were able to see their much-improved appearances. Guests also got to view first hand the facility, which is still far from meeting the needs of the Shelby County community for providing a refuge for pets who have become homeless through no fault of their own.
These past few weeks have represented a big baby step in what the future of animal rescue has the potential to become locally with the community’s continued support.

All of us at Happy Tails are wiped out from today’s event. But we can’t let the day go by without thanking everyone who participated today. We love seeing our community enjoy the animals and the fellowship. The day was incredible!!

THANK YOU! Thank you! Thank you! To each and everyone who helped make the first live adaptation event at the new Happy Tails facility the success it was - T H A N K Y O U!!! While all our four-legged guests were excited and showing off their happy tails, we had 10 adoptions! Those included nine dogs and one kitten!
Once again this caring and sharing community came through in a big way. Thanks to all of our human guests attending the open house and adoption event. But we want to especially thank our volunteers, the small but dedicated Happy Tails staff, supporters and donors. You each are truly a huge blessing!
Among contributions, the shelter has several hundred pounds of pet food and supplies, cleaning supplies, cash donations, and brand new covers/roofs for three of our outdoor kennels!
In addition to lots of adorable dogs and cats today’s Happy Tails Adoption event features balloon art by Leah Chase and a bounce house for the kiddos. Come on out and bring the family!!!

A M A Z I N G! This community has really shown up and shown out for Happy Tails Adoption Center in the past four weeks since the volunteer organization took over the care of 10 dogs previously contained in less than healthy circumstances. Donations of food for the dogs, water for volunteers and staff working in this summer heat to exercise the dogs, cleaning supplies, bleach to sanitize, towels used to dry the dogs after bathing and to dry their kennels after cleaning, and more has continued to be contributed to help with medical expenses. What a day for Happy Tails Adoption Center! We had seven adoptions - six puppies and one kitten found their forever homes! A special thanks to our Happy Tails volunteers, the crew at Tractor Supply in Center for hosting us, and a ginormous thanks to the unsung heroes in the Happy Tails community- our fosters! They are the ones who step up, take in strays and animals dumped along roads, ditches, and yards throughout the area, feed them, pamper them and give them hope for a brighter future! They cannot be thanked enough!!!
