Sprouted Rolled Oats: The Best Types of Oats for Pets

Keeping grains a minimal part of your pet’s diet is biologically appropriate, but should you choose to add oats to their nutritionally complete homemade diet, sprouted rolled oats are your best bet.
The process of sprouting oat groats increases the bioavailability of nutrients. It also makes the grains easier to digest. ✅

Steel cut oats and old-fashioned oats can also be given to pets. Avoid instant oatmeal – it’s highly processed – which causes the oats to lose nutritional value. ❌ Buy organic to avoid consuming pesticide residues.

Dogs and cats don’t have a carb requirement, so aim to keep carb intake low for metabolic health. Learn how to properly give your pet oats, if needed, in today’s free blog post.

How Often Do You Exercise With Your Canine Buddy? 🐕🏃‍♂‍

A survey of dog owners from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada and the U.S. found that physically active dog owners share their active lifestyle with their dogs, which translated to healthier dogs. 🐶✅

They also found that the stronger your intention to exercise your dog, the more likely your dog is to actually exercise, and the amount of exercise you perform is similar to the amount of exercise your dog does. So, aside from keeping you and your dog’s body in shape, it also strengthens the bond between you both! ❤️

Fruits Offer Your Pets Beneficial Phytonutrients and Antioxidants Not found in pet food!

Dogs (and cats, if they’ll eat ‘em) can receive significant health benefits from fresh food snacks 🐶🐱, but so many false food fears create unnecessary panic, and pets are denied the amazing health benefits of these great additions 👎🏼.

Many of these fruits are listed on DO NOT FEED lists by well-meaning websites that fail to explain the details: Toddlers and pets need to have the rinds, cores, seeds, leaves, stems and pits of fruits removed prior to eating, and all fruits and veggies need to be chopped into tiny, bite-sized pieces.

I find it interesting that the choking/GI risks are the same for little people and pets, but the foods listed aren’t demonized for kids because human parents have common sense: Don’t feed kids whole cherries with pits and stems. Same for your pets.

Well Pet Food Industry, and , I believe pet parents also have some common sense and won’t offer pineapple rinds to their dogs as treats, so how about you update your out-of-date website info 🙏🏼?

Put a * by foods that have a rind, pit, core or stem. Remind folks training treats should less than 10% of an animal’s daily calories, and if your pet has never had the new food before, always feed them slowly, giving the GI tract time to adjust. Chop them into tiny pieces and offer in moderation.

Here's the list of foods AAFCO/FEDIAF state are toxic to pets: onions, grapes/raisins, macadamia nuts and chocolate. 4 foods. It’s time to clean up and clarify your warning lists.

Pet parents, what’s your pet’s favorite fruit? Share your answers in the comments. 🐶👇

It’s pumpkin season! 🎃 Don’t throw these beauties out after Halloween, recycle them into your dog’s dish! 🐶

After removing the seeds, steam or bake your pumpkin until the flesh is soft, scoop out the flesh and freeze in ice cube trays to use all winter!

(If you buy canned pumpkin to feed to your pets, make sure to only buy 100% pumpkin -preferably organic- NOT pie filling, which can cause GI problems).

Should You Feed Rice to Your Pet? 🍚

Rice is a grain — it’s a carbohydrate, which dogs and cats have no biological need for. That being said, it’s not dangerous or toxic to pets, so it can still be added to their meals if necessary (usually because of finances or a requirement for a lower protein diet).

I don’t recommend adding grains to your pet’s diet “just because,” but if you must feed them rice, organic brown rice has more nutrients than white rice.

Read today’s free blog post to learn about the nutrients brown rice has: https://bit.ly/3TAuj06

How to Keep Fleas at Bay 🐕🛡️

Fleas aren't typically attracted to healthy pets. They're drawn to the weakest animals they can find, so one of the best defenses against these pests is to strengthen your pet’s immune health by feeding them a nutritionally balanced, species-appropriate diet, as well as removing the environmental factors that can negatively impact them. 👍

Grandma Always Said to Eat Your Veggies

Vegetables are a great source of fiber, minerals and vitamins that are vital to your pet’s optimal body function and defense against diseases. ✅ They also provide a variety of antioxidants and phytochemicals like sulforaphane, which are not found in meats, bones and organs. 🥦🥬🥒🥕🧄🍅

Adding a few bites of fresh veggies on top of your pet’s meals is a powerful way to supercharge their food, so it has a more profound impact on your pet’s health. 🐶🐱💚

While many veggies are more nutritious than others, the European pet food federation states the only veggie that’s toxic to pets are onions (including leeks and chives). Learn more about the benefits of veggies for pets in today’s free health blog (link below).

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT HERBS TO EVER ADD TO YOUR PET’S DIET!

In a first-of-its-kind study, researchers looked for the presence of toxic chemicals in umbilical cord blood of newborn babies. Of the more than 400 chemicals tested for, 287 were detected in umbilical cord blood. Of these, 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain or nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animals. - Environmental Working Group

Hello toxic planet and the skyrocketing occurrences of cancer in our pets (and in ourselves)!

Let me introduce you to one of my top 5 most important herbs that needs to be in your pet’s life, if it isn’t already!

Milk thistle!

This herb has been used for over 2,000 years to help fix a zillion different problems!

Recently, scientists from the Radiological Physics and Advisory Division in India found in their study on milk thistle that silibinin, found in milk thistle, programmed cell death in breast cancer.

“Early laboratory studies show that silymarin and other active substances in milk thistle may have anticancer effects. These substances appear to stop cancer cells from dividing and reproducing, shorten their lifespan, and reduce blood supply to tumors.” - University of Maryland Medical Center

Personally though, I love it for its allergy-fighting properties! If your poor pet is constantly itching and scratching, milk thistle can help!

According to The Truth Cause of Allergies – It’s In The Liver:

“The liver has to process toxins and when it can’t do its job it stores them. If it stores them it also produces additional histamines to protect itself. If an allergen is present the brain sends a message: ‘Send out a few histamines! I think there’s an invader!!’ and the liver proceeds it releases too many, and you have the allergic response. Cleanse the liver and maybe [...] you’ll become allergy/asthma free.”

Dosages:

Use ¼ of a teaspoon per 20lbs of body weight.

Detoxification is such an important process, not only for us humans, but also for our pets. We can be feeding our furry loved ones the best foods in the world but pores clogged with toxins will not allow essential nutrients to pass, causing a weakened immune system. A pet’s weakened immune system equals a multitude of problems! Milk thistle is the boss of detoxifiers!
