As we wait for our own adorable Nigerian Dwarf babies to arrive, I’m seeing more and more scams pop up. This one in one of my local community groups - I actually got tagged in the post by a friend who thought it was legit and was showing me the “adorable newborn baby goat” for sale.
Some key things to watch out for scams - LONG page names with “baby goats/miniature goats/goats for sale” in the name. This is super common for scams, or “such and such farm” etc.
If they’re posting in a local group, check when they joined said group. Scammers usually will have joined that day or a couple of days prior. You can do this by clicking on their name and it should show their activity within the group.
Often responds to comments with “DM me” or “I’ll pm you” - while SOMETIMES this can be a legit response (because communicating about animals for sale on FB can put groups at risk) they often won’t disclose any information publicly.
Save one of the photos from their post or page, head to Google chrome and do a reverse search (just click the photo icon and upload the pic). It’ll show all the places on the internet that photo can be found (this page in particular, I found dozens of replicas from all over the place!)
They will often offer transport/delivery, but you have to pay the delivery/insurance etc which of course is to be expected for ACTUAL services. They’ll take this money from you first and then surprise, no baby goats. They won’t allow a local pickup option because they DONT EXIST.
Just please be aware and don’t fall for the adorable pics! If it seems too good to be true it probably is. Very frustrating for reputable breeders trying to do the right thing.
