This boy doesn't usually give alot away... he is a little hard to get a wag of the tail out of or a cuddle due to a few anxiety hurdles however over the last few sessions he has really shown how far he has come! Today was a massive hurdle For him, we walked passed a school AT END OF DAY CHAOS!!! When I first worked with him we were lucky if we could travel in the direction of the school never mind actually walking passed and now he tackled the chaos of kids running and riding home along with adults galore not to mention the rustle and bustle of ballons and signs that aren't usually there.. he handled it like a champ!! Using the new tools he has been learning to help him get through situations where his anxiety may flare up.

I couldnt be more proud of him and although I love allllll doggoes big and small for their own little quirks, there is somthing special about working with dogs with internal insecurities as every little win is worth millions!!

Meet Lucy. Lucy is the most beautiful Australian kelpie and wouldnt hurt a fly however, Lucy likes to take her people grass skiing when on her walk and whenever she encounters another dog she becomes quite reactive, barking, pulling and spinning all at once..
I have posted my first outing with miss Lucy and another video of our 3rd outing...

Note this is not perfection... this is her THIRD session. It is alot of work and there is no 'fix' to this particular problem however with consistent training and reinforcement Lucy will be able to at the very least walk past other dogs comfortably and confidently!

In the second video you shpuld be able to notice the exact moment Lucy sees the other dog approaching. Instead of resorting ti he default behaviour , she checks in with me. You will then notice the distance I create between Lucy and the other dog to ensure her comfort level is met in order for her to be able to learn from the situation.. although Lucy breaks her walking position, my priority is the reactivity in this scenario so I let it slide and dont acknowledge the break and just create a positive environment for Lucy. This therefore helps Lucy recover quickly and she is able to resume her walking position and focus!

Even though we cannot speak dog, it is important to keep the lines of communication between dog and human open through our body language and vocals...

Every dog is different in their own right and as such timing and results will be different for each case. Lucy just wants to please and it shows in her attitude to her training.

Dogs like miss Lucy are one of the reasons I love this job so much!!!

Good job Lucy!

***TICK SEASON***

Just a reminder to check your pets are up to date with their flea and tick treatments as tick season is well and truley upon us!

Check the fine print of your chosen treatment.. some products will cover fleas for up to 3 months however require monthly or even fortnightly treatments to cover your pet for ticks.

Even if your pet is up to date it is important to check them thoroughly as often as possible :)

Sorry its been so long between posts! What a wonderful afternoon to be out walking with Mr Bear! Bear has had trouble with impulse control. For example he would run out the gate as soon as it opened not caring to look back and would cross the road without even a pause.. using the long lead yo give Bear the illusion he is 'free' I have popped ques to appropriate behaviours so he can understand what is expected of him and he is doing soooo much better already and he seems to be really enjoying the extra stimulation on his walks! He is such a loveable guy!!

There are alot if thing i absolutely LOVE about this job. One of them being how happy and excited they get when i arrive!!

The most enthusiastic goldie 'Molly' trying her heart out in her "walk and train session'.
Molly is so happy about life in general that she tends to drift off into her own bubble when on a walk, often leaving her 'walkee' behind or unaware that she is about to introduce herself to the unknowing human tending to their garden 🤣😂

Changing things up is a great way to keep your dog focused and give them good habits to work on when they may otherwise be easily distracted. Here, Molly is learning to concentrate on me rather then the dog in the distance. Rather then letting her pull or try to over power her, i simply change my direction a few times to keep her guessing where im going. If she doesnt 'know' where im going she is not able to completely concentrate on the excitement of the approaching dog and therefore can control her impulsion to keave my side :)

Miss Tilly very proud of herself after her first session of loose lead walking training!

Learning how to loose lead walk takes alot of concentration from our canine friends, therefore wearing your dog out much faster then should you just embark on a general walk.

Whenever you teach your dog something new be sure to do so in short sweet sessions so they finish feeling and looking as accomplished as miss Tilly here and you will be sure to have a doggoe much happier to try next time!!
