AXEL - POTENTIAL FOR THE FUTURE. This was a few weeks ago now but I haven't been able to get new footage recently. I'm really excited about this boy, I think he will easily make a nice dog for someone. Early days so no pressure yet.
Roll call📢
Last training session before they all go to a lovely friend for the week whilst I go to Wales. I'm really hoping this mob of thugs behave this well for their carer 🫣
Apache at just under 5 months old and looking very promising. She is very biddible and keen but with a sensible and thoughful approach to life. The pups are enjoying a relaxed puppyhood with different exposure to stimulus and occasional sheep time to keep them very interested without the chance of anything negative happening.
The two whistles and verbal commands that I teach off sheep, for use on sheep are "lie down" and "that'll do" as they are extremely handy in every day life. The pups have almost mastered the lie down whistle in their first introduction to it!
Poor Alys is always the single sheep in the three dog brace that is puppy playtime... I always feel a bit bad for her but she does start it!
Can you see the sheep? Beti eventually did after a couple of redirect whistles but we didn't cross over so very pleased! Difficult course with two gaps in the bank's to navigate and a blind outrun with some tricky sheep. Brilliant start to the open season 💪🎉🎊

Apache says she can already do an outrun so she wants to compete this year in the nurseries. Very excited about this one
Axel is maybe too brave around the horses, now stealing food from them 🤦♀️ I think it's good for the pups to learn there is an on and off switch around animals that move and the horses are perfect for teaching the off switch
Our sheep here are heavy, flighty and strong with the dogs (and people) which makes them occasionally difficult with close work, something which is my weakest point too. Beti has to work hard and keep a cool head to get these sheep to pen (especially considering her handler!). It's invaluable practice for us both.
The pups can be terrible thugs to each other and Beti is the perfect disciplinarian, I think this is the equivalent of a time out for naughty toddlers!
Kismet Alba the superstar. I like this girl a lot, good intelligence, resilience and eager to please will hopefully make her a very useful dog on sheep 🤞
Working on individual obedience in the hope it will translate to manners on sheep when the pups are older. The current project is making them all comfortable with obedience from a distance, as demonstrated by the lovely Alba
When you want to enjoy your hobbies in your down time from work, then you remember, you have kids 😂🫣
All the pups have started on sheep and been brave with the small calves to date, but now Alys is telling me she really wants to strut her stuff with anything that moves, including the giant cows. She makes up for being the smallest with brains and courage
Axel showing his calm relaxed power with the sheep. I really like this boy, I think he could be a special one
Kismet Ana showing lovely feel already for her sheep with Frank Lloyd Richards Sheepdogs Frank Richards Sheepdogs and Tamar Valley Shepherdess I think she will be a special one for you 😍 Ana has always been the wriggling people pleaser puppy, so hopefully training her will be a breeze when teamed with her obviously natural ability
Apache looking good at just over 3 months old 🤞🤞 for this one
For crimes against recall, the pups have been grounded to work on some training before all being allowed to run free again. Safe to say that two days in, we have made strong progress!
