🐾 Meet Petie! 🐾

This sweet little guy may be small in size but he's big on personality! At around 30 lbs. and just a year old, Petie is a bundle of playfulness and love. While we're not exactly sure of his breed mix or background, what we do know is that he's an absolute charmer.

Petie adores people (kids included!) and gets along well with cats and other dogs. He's always up for a walk, especially if there's water involvedhe LOVES splashing around on his adventures with his foster family. He has also enjoyed chasing the leaves as they blow around!

When he's not exploring the outdoors, Petie is more than happy to snuggle up on the couch, making him the perfect balance of playful and cuddly. Plus, how can you resist those soulful eyes?!

Petie is house- and crate-trained, walks well on a leash, knows basic commands, and gets along with everyone he meets. If you're looking to add a little joy and excitement to your family, Petie is your guy!

The holiday season is here, and we’re excited to bring a festive opportunity for you and your pets! Join us on Saturday, November 30th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at CityPets614 Animal Hospital for Santa Pet Pictures!

Dress up your furry friends (and yourself if you like!) for a fun photo with Santa, perfect for holiday cards or keepsakes. We'll have a cozy, pet-friendly setup and plenty of treats for everyone to enjoy!

Today we want to take a moment to share a story that highlights the difference a foster home can make in preparing pups for their forever homes! Here’s what their foster mom had to say about these spicy-turned-sweet chihuahuas! 💜

“When Steve and Casanova arrived at our home, I was positive we were going to regret it. They were scared, and angry and nipping at us if we looked at them wrong. Once we got through the initial introductions to our dogs was when the real work began.

Steve and Cas had no trust for any of us and they would not let anyone touch them. Until they warmed up I chose to be the main handler (I can handle a Chihuahua nibble or 2 lol). While I gave them their main food in their crates, I kept food/treats in my pockets and would toss them a piece here and there. Then I would put treats closer and closer to me, until they were eating out of my hand instead of nipping at me.

In my home, space is not always guaranteed, but we gave Stave and Cas plenty of time to warm up to us. Once they realized that they were safe, being fed regularly, and treated with kindness, they blossomed into goofy happy boys.

I did some breed research on these two, to better understand their mannerisms and what they needed from us. These 2 spicy chihuahuas ended up being some of our favorite fosters to date and we hope they are so happy with their new families!”

Meet Wren! This precious little lady is smart, sweet, and quickly learning the ropes of potty training with some positive reinforcement—she’s so proud when she gets it right. She’s not a barker and loves to play with all kinds of toys, especially fetch.

Wren is a cockapoo/beagle mix, and at right around 11 weeks old, this friendly pup gets along great with kids, adults, other dogs, and even cats. She can be a bit shy at first with new faces, but warms up quickly.

At night, she sleeps peacefully in her crate, snuggling her stuffed animal. She wakes up once for a quick potty break and then settles right back down until morning.

She’s the perfect mix of ladylike charm and playful s***k. When you pick her up, she loves to cuddle and quickly relaxes in your arms. She’s ready to become someone’s best friend for life!

❄️🐾 Winter is coming! Here are some tips to keep your pets safe and cozy all season long:

- Limit Outdoor Time 🕒: Shorten outdoor walks to protect against frostbite, especially on sensitive paws, noses, and ears.
- Bundle Up 🧥: Consider pet jackets or sweaters for extra warmth, especially for smaller breeds or those with short coats.
- Paw Protection 🐾: Salt and ice can be tough on paws – use pet-safe paw balm or booties to shield them from the cold.
- Watch for Antifreeze ⚠️: It’s toxic to pets, so clean up any spills and keep them away from garages or driveways.

🧡 November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month 🧡 Early detection can make a big difference in treatment outcomes, so knowing what to watch for is key. Here are a few common signs to keep in mind:

- Lumps or bumps that grow or change quickly
- Unusual odors, especially from the mouth
- Changes in appetite or weight loss
- Difficulty eating or swallowing

Meet Izzy!

If a dog could embody Trick or Treat, it would be Izzy! This adorable girl is all about love and cuddles, but she also has a mischievous side. Leave her unsupervised, and she might just sneak off with a sock or two!

Her foster is helping her learn what's okay to play with, working on housetraining, and teaching her basic obedience. Continued training after adoption is always recommended. Izzy is crate trained and often heads to her crate for naps on her own.

Izzy is a sweet lowrider, likely a hound/terrier mix, weighing about 29 lbs. She's great with larger dogs, cats, and of course, people, especially if they're up for some snuggles!

Halloween is just around the corner, and while it's a fun time for humans, it can be a bit spooky for our furry friends! 🐶 Here are a few safety tips to keep your dog safe and stress-free this Halloween:

🐾 Keep candy out of reach – Chocolate and sweets can be dangerous for dogs! 🍫🚫
🐾 Watch the costumes – If your pup likes to dress up, make sure their costume is comfy, non-restrictive, and free of choking hazards.
🐾 Create a safe space – Trick-or-treaters can cause stress with all the excitement. Make sure your dog has a quiet place to retreat to if needed.
🐾 Be mindful of decorations – Keep an eye on candles, pumpkins, and small decor that curious pups might investigate. 🎃🔥
