Dogs suffering from any type of stress become nervous, and anxious. It can get so bad that it starts to cause problems in your family and household.

Identifying the stressors will help you solve their pain, and build confidence. A great way to start is by being calm, patient, and compassionate.

Think about how you would comfort a small child. The principle is the same for your dog.

Your dog is there for you. Be there for them.

Anxiety is just as painful and upsetting for dogs as it is for humans. If you notice that your pet is behaving differently or acting out, do not punish them.

Their behaviour is a signal that there is something amiss, and they need your help. Be patient, show lots of love and attention to help your dog feel safe and secure.

It’s also essential to take your dog to the vet. Your vet will be able to help you with tips, solutions, products and supplements that can help alleviate anxiety in your pup.

There are plenty of triggers that can cause anxiety in your dog.

The main 4 triggers are as follows
1. Noise Anxiety - New, unusual, loud or sudden noises like firecrackers, gunshots, and thunder
2. Separation Anxiety - Leaving the house for long periods, like going to work, or even for brief periods like going to the store
3. Travel - Moving vehicles; your pet doesn’t understand how they are moving, which can cause stress
4. Confinement Anxiety - Crates, cages and rooms that separate your dog from you

Unlike humans, there is always an outside cause for your dog’s anxiety.

Most anxiety in dogs stems from a past traumatic experience, or their protection and survival instincts going into overdrive. Strangers, other animals, or unfamiliar sounds can trigger those instincts.

Removing the trigger, or helping your dog get used to them will ease your pet’s anxiety.

Ever wonder why your dog doesn’t hide during thunderstorms?

A dog’s hearing is much more sensitive than ours, being able to hear sounds as soft as -15 dB.

This means that when there is a loud sound like fireworks or thunder, your dogs hear it much louder than we do.

How do dogs show you that they’re feeling anxious, or unsettled?

A dog’s stress reactions are routed in deep-seated survival instincts, and can be triggered by unfamiliar situations, or by things that the dog views as a threat, like sudden noises or strange people.

Anxiety in dogs is a normal response, and should not be viewed as bad behaviour. Understanding the root cause of anxiety can help you manage triggers and help your pet.

Here are some common symptoms of anxiety in dogs.
Restlessness
Destructive behaviour
Excessive barking
Aggression
Panting
Drooling
Urinating or defecating indoors

Separation anxiety in your dogs, especially little ones, can result in serious behavioural issues that can easily be avoided.

The ASPCA reports that “a dog with separation anxiety might try to escape from an area where he's confined when he's left alone or separated from his guardian. The dog might attempt to dig and chew through doors or windows, which could result in self-injury, such as broken teeth, cut and scraped front paws and damaged nails.”

Get your dog used to your absence by disappearing for small periods of time, and lengthen your absence over time.

Dogs can experience anxiety for various reasons. 🐶😖 Unlike with people, there is often a source of a dog’s anxiety and, consequently, a basic solution for it.

Most common is anxiety toward strangers. Did an outsider mistreat that dog? Or, on the other hand, would they say they were never socialised to be around people, other than their owners?

Regardless of the cause, any dog can develop anxiety. All they need is love, exercise, exposure and your understanding. 💙

Does your dog gasp, run, shake and sometimes hide during rainstorms? 🐶☔ Have you ever wondered why your dog doesn’t like loud noises?

You might have what is known as a noise-sensitive dog. Firecrackers, loud and sudden noises from nearby pr thunder can make your dog anxious. They also won’t be able to determine the cause of the loud noise, or where it is coming from.

Research proposes that eight out of ten dogs find it hard to cope when left alone ☝ However, half won't give any indication of feeling anxious or lonely.

That’s why owners can miss the behavioural signs in their dogs. Fortunately, SRB (or fear of abandonment) is preventable and treatable.

Confinement is unnatural for dogs since they are social creatures. 🐶 Notwithstanding, they will figure out how to adjust to it after some time.

Assuming your dog is restless when in confinement and urinates while crated, you should initiate some confinement training.

The reason for confinement training is to assist your dog with discovering that being away from you doesn't need to be a distressing time and that it might be entertaining. ☝

It's a good idea 💡 to help a little dog 🐶 to become acclimated to your absence for brief periods, regardless of whether you mean to leave them for a long time.

Sooner or later, it would help if you leave your dog at home; if they aren't used to it, they might be highly anxious.

The idea is to let them know that being separated from everyone else isn't unnerving; it's a chance to unwind and feel great.

We noticed that Oscar started to show signs of being nervous and anxious. A vet visit occurred and for some reason, Oscar passed all the tests that rule out any illnesses. We could put him on anti-anxiety medication if we chose to, but instead, we would rather try to find an alternative method to control his anxiety.

We noticed that Oscar started to show signs of nervousness and anxiety. We took him to the vet and he passed all the tests that rule out any illness. Instead of putting him on anti-anxiety meds, we wanted to find an alternative method to control his anxiety.
