Heartland Senior Sanctuary Under construction Specializing in senior dogs, we allow some seniors the ability to live out their days in our "sanctuary" or home.
(11)

Founded originally in 2015, HSDRR hopes to grow and become a leading rescue in the Joplin, Carthage area that can partner with local shelters to pull high risk animals or animals that need rehabilitation. We would strive to try to develop good community relations as well as provide a vet assistance fund for veterinary care, emergency kenneling and care for animals whose owners are fleeing unsafe s

ituations, find themselves without a home or just fall on some really hard times. (Each situation will be evaluated on a case by case basis) 100% volunteer ran

Heartland has had some great support and has saved a lot of lives with your help. We will continue our mission to save lives but in a different way. We will use our voice to educate, bring awareness and advocate. We will continue to help get dogs to rescue and help them raise funds when needed. Personally we will continue to adopt seniors/hospice dogs in need and care for them in their final days. With so many groups out there, donations are few and far between and costs for ongoing care, vet care and food were all coming out of my pocket. I could not continue to operate this way so have decided instead to join forces with other rescues and help where I can. Thank you all for your loyal support and please continue to follow us as we change the look of our page. Follow us for information on how you can help!! We do have some new things in the works and hope you follow our journey!

We cannot save precious lives without your help. Just because they grew old and developed health problems does not mean they no longer deserve to be treated with kindness and love!! Some younger Sanctuary animals are there as former biters, while young may never be appropriate for a regular home environment. Donate, Advocate, Foster, Volunteer!!!!

When rescue does a fundraiser that needs people to sell items such as popcorn, cookies, discount cards etc we rely on volunteers to help make these a success. You would work as a volunteer selling these items or promoting events and attending events in the local area. Actual events usually are not more than one every 3 months and fundraisers are no more than every other month.

Heartland Senior Dog Rescue is looking to solidify its position in the community and grow with your help. I realized how great the need is in this last year and was not prepared for the influx of requests and the sheer number of dogs needing our help. I could not keep the rescue going on my own. I am restructuring this year and fundraising to help build a small kennel facility to help with temporary housing of dogs before going to foster or when being returned from fosters. Each volunteer position will have a separate description sheet that has expectations and approximate time you will put in with it. We will be looking for the following:

Region 1and 2 Directors (2) and assistant directors (2): Minimum 10 hours a week, maximum 20 hours a week. (4)

Region 1 and 2 Foster Coordinators: (4) Minimum 5 hours a week, Maximum 10 hours a week.

Social Media Director: (1) Average 14 hours per week

Transport Coordinator: (1) Average 10-12 hours per week

Heartland is not renewing it's license this year but we will still be very active in the rescue community as well as our local community. Our fundraising efforts will be geared towards raising medical funds for those who need assistance with getting in emergencies and elderly who need assistance with regular vetting. Our Grant writing and fundraising efforts will also be geared towards obtaining land and building a shelter or purchasing an existing facility. Once we have obtained the new facility we will apply again for our license and resume intake. Please help us help serve our community better by helping raise much needed funds to cover these costs! Keep your eyes peeled for fundraising events and feel free to donate using our donate button on the page to help us attain these goals.

Harsh but true...

PETS: Before/After Christmas Warning

In about 4 to 12 weeks after Christmas we are going to be seeing the "We need to re-home our pet" Posts. These are the folks who purchased puppies as Christmas gifts who are suddenly allergic, moving, having baby, don't have time, their kids won't take care of it, didn't think they'd get so big (etc....)
To these people I say:
*You didn't know you had an allergy? oops. Don't let the pet suffer. Get allergy medicine.
*You're moving? what city are you moving to that doesn't allow dogs? Bullville? find a house/ apartment / condo that will ALLOW your furry family member. PERIOD.
*Oh...you had no idea you were due to have a baby in 2 months? interesting. Get a dog trainer and suck it up buttercup, you're a pet mom and a human mom now, millions deal with this daily and manage just fine and so will you if you decide to. so just decide to do it.
*Don't have time for one 15 minute walk or to have a dog just sit next to you while you're home? really? So they're better off in a shelter than waiting in your house for you to get home? ok....get another dog to keep them company. find a solution that lets them stay in your home, it really isn't that difficult.
*Oh....you mean your 5 year old didn't step up to the plate to feed, walk, and scoop p**p? And this surprised you? I guess it's time for you to step up and be the model of responsibility for your own child teach responsibility .
*Wrong Size? not cute as an adult? not quite the personality you expected? look in a mirror... How'd you turn out? Should we send you back or make you homeless? Grow up, you chose to bring this puppy home, not the other way around. You can bet "that" dog would lay down his life for you.. can you say the same for him or her?
I didn't make this post to offend anyone, but rather to open eyes, and take responsibility for those without a voice that had no choice in being a gift for Christmas.
Animals are not gifts. They are living things that require time, commitment, and resources. Don't bring a pet in your home if you don't have enough of all three to give it an adequate home.
Feel free to copy and share.

Update Acadia is awake out of surgery and doing well the vet feels that it is not a congenital issue which caused her leg injury they believe maybe at some point she had been dropped or had A form of impact injury which caused the damage and it has been awhile because she is just now starting to heal please keep Acadia in your thoughts as she hills as she will need physical therapy in the coming months

Acadia couldnt have surgery last week because of some sniffles. This week I got a call that she needs an FHO, on top of her Spay and her bilateral inguinal hernia repair. PLEASE keep her in your thoughts today and she is one of the tiniest of tinies. Any help would be appreciated as this is about a $400 procedure with everything she has going on. Ok so this is Joe aka Kara’s husband the quiet one on the heartland board lol. I don’t post a lot but that’s just my nature. Most of the people in the rescue that I have met know I also work for the local humane society. So you could jokingly say I am with animals 24 hours a day( not that I would ever feel like it is a bad thing I love it.) Alas for those awesome people I haven’t met yet thank you guys for everything you do, transports rescues adoptions everything I love you all. I can truly say that at work my two most gratifying moments are adoptions and return to owners the look on an animals eyes when they realize they are going either home be it new to them or the home they love. Another factor that goes into it is volunteering be it taking a dog for a walk, giving it a bath, anything in that dogs life while in a shelter that is simply time with human interaction can mean the world to a dog. All I am asking is one hour a month a week anything, just volunteer locally that one hour might only seem like 60 minutes to you but in the cases of some dogs that one hour could mean the world between life and death. These wonderful animals might have taken different routes to be in the situation but if you look into an animals eyes you see the confusion fear depression and just want. I know we are blessed with amazing volunteers but every person counts. I have a very personal story for you guys.

There was this little dog that came into our shelter for reasons that I don’t remember and was put into an area I was working in. Nothing particularly special about the dog but it was when I was just starting there. So I would see her everyday as people passed by looking at all the other dogs, she never once gave up hope. I finally got Kara to inquire about possibly being able to rescue the dog or if I could adopt it. We got help from an amazing rescue coordinator and it was approved. I can honestly say I cried bringing her to the rescue. It took Annabell about one hour after getting home to decide I was her human. Well to make a long story short this dogs love and concern for me made me make the decision that she was the perfect emotional support dog. All of that from some dog some one decided they didn’t want. We go under the mantra “adopt don’t shop” and “til every dog has a home” so for us we live it daily( thankfully Kara is an amazing director and organizer) and I love all the people I have met and devoted so much of your efforts to this cause Sorry for being so long winded but as a former puppy mill survivor used to say “speak for those that have no voice” - Lil Olive.
