Skye the Rottweiler returned home today after being in the vets for nearly two weeks.
In that time she has been on a drip, had numerous tests, had major surgery to remove a blockage that had been in her intestines since before she arrived here (parts of a rubber ball) and a blood transfusion.
She is quite wretched at the moment and a scrawny and wasted away girl.
The emergency surgery performed was done when she was very weak and sick but there was no choice.
It really took it out of her and made her anaemic.
Her last blood test showed that her red blood cells are up so the transfusion did work.
I am well aware that people are talking and have decided that the rescue tried too hard to save just one dog and especially a restricted breed.
I am prepared to discuss this with them if they want to chat.
Or I can say now that I take euthanasia very seriously as you cannot take it back and if I feel that there is a chance to save a life then I will put everything into it.
I was pushed into putting my own dog to sleep by my vet 15 years ago and even now I am still traumatised by it and feel extreme guilt. I know it was too soon and have to live with that.
The fact is that she is improving and no matter what anyone's opinion is, I will do what is right for that animal. Lives first, money second.
Although I do understand that a bill of nearly β¬3 grand is a tad extreme π
Moving on though...
Skye is staying in the house rather than in the kennels.
She has shown that she is deeply unhappy in the kennels by throwing her bowls around, leaving her without water and exhausting herself which is the last thing she needs.
She has been quiet as a mouse indoors though and very relaxed and that will help her recovery.
Of course she has decided that she wants a raw food diet. Not just raw food but a fresh steak diet!
She is definitely on board with the six small steak meals a day though. π€
Here she is having a gentle wander this evening in the field. You can see how thin she
Pikachu has made a great new friend!
The delightful and very handsome Steve.
Steve has the most amazing nature and was integrated in with my own dogs very easily.
Steve has been in rescue (boarded for the NWSPCA) with no interest for a year but he doesn't seem to mind!
Here we have the pit bull and the pocket bullie β€οΈ
Little video of how Pikachu is doing π
She is absolutely full of it.
She has weight gained beautifully now and I've got to be careful not to go the other way.
Her eye is still being medicated so we're not done yet but she is now a very happy girl!
Pikachu's fundraiser is slowly getting there.
So far we've raised β¬550 (including the Go Fund Me) out of β¬1046.
Her current bill stands at β¬596.
So please carry on sharing her appeal π

Here she is now.
She has learned zoomies and even found the joy of playing with a ball!
It's the little things in life!
Sooty and Sweep the most adorable boys π
Absolutely love this pair of clowns.
10 month old American Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Currently being boarded for the NWSPCA
Zara had some visitors today.
She was over the moon to receive some belly rubs!
She really is a sweetheart and thoroughly enjoyed the extra attention β€οΈ

By coincidence a rescue friend moved to a county next to Mayo from Kent. Our paths have crossed whilst we were in the UK.
She was friends with Billy at The Retreat and Niall Lester so it goes without saying that she is not put off by a difficult dog π
And then Tulip happened!
Today Tulip went off to her new home with Kathleen and her mum and as you can see, she is doing so well already.
She is in foster at the moment as she is still not favouring her back right leg, but it is with a view to adopt.
These ladies have bags of patience and live a nice quiet life with their dogs.
It's a small world sometimes!
(Tulip is an NWSPCA dog boarded here for recovery from her trauma)
A happy update on Meg the shut down and terrified Border Collie dropped off last week.
She has had an amazing turnaround.
Here she is at Colleen's from the nwspca who took her back to her place yesterday. She is now booked to go to a new home.
She has remembered how to dog!
Maximoth asking for breakfast!
He live with his mum and brother.
Not a fan of dogs!
He is about two years old now and was rescued along with mum when he was born in a shed and not wanted in there.
They were going to be thrown onto the grass to die.
He has never had a homing enquiry.
This beautiful old soul is Jerry.
He was an unclaimed stray who found himself in a Dublin dog pound.
He has one undescended testicle and testicular cancer in the other one confirmed by the vet.
The plan with Jerry is to bring him into rescue to get him castrated along with removing his undescended testicle.
He is clearly very uncomfortable at the moment.
We have to hope that the cancer has not spread.
Please neuter your dog.
This is far too often the outcome. Testicular cancer is a common and avoidable issue with older dogs.
Also, whoever dumped this gorgeous boy when he needed his owner the most is the lowest of the low.
Absolutely disgusting human.
Puppy fun today!
Sooty & Sweep (American Staffordshire Bull Terriers), Brandy (Lurcher), Meg (deaf Border Collie) and Lukie (recently shaved Border Collie) just having a fabulous time!
Sally Anne has been in rescue for a while now.
She might be absolutely pants with other dogs but she is so great with people and likes being called a Good Girl β€οΈ
