ThunderBeast American Bulldogs Est. 1998 Established in 1998, ThunderBeast American Bulldogs started as a hobby. This is NOT a business and therefore we’re in the breed NOT FOR PROFIT.

Our small collection from the original Bulldogs that came ashore to the Philippines was based on the Tan’s Big Boy bloodline which were mainly used as family/property guardians as well as functioned as simple utility dogs. Our present-day Bulldogs are based primarily on the bloodline established by OTAC Bulldogs in the UK, specifically offspring of OTAC’s Bailiff and his outcross with the Konfeder

ate bloodline. Our goal is to produce, raise and work FUNCTIONAL, TEMPERAMENTALLY STRONG AND BALANCED, INDEPENDENTLY INTELLIGENT, PHYSICALLY SOUND and STRUCTURALLY CORRECT TRUE-TO-TYPE AMERICAN BULLDOGS here in the Philippines that are excellent both at home with their family or at work in whatever capacity they do. We are focusing to improve, enhance and progress our stocks in our quest to find the finer American Bulldog that is best suited for the purpose we envision them to excel into; to establish and continue a specific bloodline that we can proudly identify as our very own, staying true and keeping as close to the traditional and original American Bulldogs’ character and purpose. We are working and tediously searching far & wide, working and discussing our shared principles with like-minded individuals who have made their significant mark and work in the breed in order to learn more about the breed and acquire dogs that we believe could help us achieve our goals. We will soon bring in dogs from old performance and hybrid bloodlines from abroad and likewise forge breeding collaborations with friends’ bloodlines to incorporate with our current dogs for an even stronger gene pool. A huge challenge that we are enthusiastically going to embark into, with the guidance of our esteemed mentors. There may be chances that a puppy/dog may potentially be made available (either companion/pet or working animal) but it will be a RARE occasion since we do not breed our Bulldogs conveniently outside of the breeding program we designed. If there is/are puppies available, they will not be priced “competitively” but our Bulldogs will not come cheap either. ThunderBeast American Bulldogs stands by the quality and temperament of our stock. We need people who will commit to our dogs not just invest on them. Honesty and integrity weigh heavily for us. If a puppy is to be raised as a companion or a pet by its new owner the dog will have NO BREEDING RIGHTS and will therefore be monitored. Potential buyers and owners of a working puppy/dog should endeavor to work on and with the dog, maintain an equally excellent breeding program to improve their program and maintain the quality and integrity of our bloodline if not to create a new distinct bloodline for themselves. Owner matching and screening will be strictly observed as we reserve the right to refuse the sale or release of any dog at our discretion. No dogs will be sold to under 30s and ALL dogs sold (if any) will be subject to our standard contract conditions. We will never allow any of our dogs go anywhere we don’t know anything about. We want to make sure that they go to where they will really be cared for and used to their best purpose, not just anyone who will make a profit out of them. We want our dogs to be handled and taken care of to the same standard that we keep and use them here if not better. ThunderBeast ABs RETAINS THE RIGHT TO BREED any of our dogs co-owned with other individuals and any arrangements pertinent to this are and will be under PRIVATE TREATY. ThunderBeast ABs WILL NOT SUPPORT, CLAIM NOR TAKE CREDIT for dogs produced from the breeding of UNTESTED DOGS/BITCHES without our knowledge REGARDLESS of the outcome. NONE OF OUR MALES ARE OPEN FOR PUBLIC STUD.

THE STUD DOG

“Let me explain what a stud dog means to me. A stud dog is a male that when bred to different types of females will constantly improve himself. There are a lot of male American Bulldogs out there... but very few stud dogs.”
~ Alan Scott

I have always stood by the knowledge that there is no bloodline that’s stronger than its bi***es. I’ve learned that back when I was heavily involved with breeding, raising and just about anything with gamebred APBTs in this side of the pond. A knowledgeable breeder always puts premium to an excellent (even exceptional) brood bitch as the foundation of his bloodline. However, this doesn’t mean that his choice of stud won’t be as important. He can’t just take his bitch to just about any stud and expect to produce good dogs (to say the least). Quite frankly, I see so many dog owners breeding their dogs to popular stud dogs then later advertise and sell the puppies saying that those are ‘quality’ pups. My questions are …,

1. What parameters did they base their claim to say that the pups are really ‘quality pups’?
2. What’s the dam like and how did they come up to the decision to choose which stud dog to use in that breeding?
3. Has the stud dog produced better dogs than he is (temperament, traits, character, health, structure)?
3. What are the qualities of the dam and the sire that they aim to put on (or improve) the pups?
4. What are the strengths of the parents that they want, and flaws if any…, that they don’t want to be in the pups?

Of course to every dog owner, his / her dog will always be the best dog there is. I know that. I consider mine to be so too. But the best judge of our dogs are always the people who understand and know these dogs better than we do. Those who have been around before we even knew that this breed actually exists. If they say that this dog is good and that dog is better, chances are…, that observation would highly be accurate.

Personally, to say that my pups have quality, I always have to look at the parents of those pups. Having bred the dam [which I believe is an ideal representative of the breed] to a dog that I also believe to not only be an ideal specimen but also has that ability to produce better dogs than he is, I should know what to expect from the resulting puppies. Now you may say that breeding does not always produce the same results. Yes. Genetics is not always predictable and genetic expressions differ from one dog to another even if they come from the same litter. That’s a fact. But there is also such a thing as PREPOTENCY. This is the ability of the parents to produce the exact same dogs as they are or even better. This is how we know that the bloodline we established and the bloodline of the dogs we bred are prepotent and consistent in their genetic expresions. If we see these in our pups, then those pups are truly QUALITY. And by quality, we don’t just talk about how impressive they look. We look into the standards by which this breed should be judged against and how they measure up to the dogs that are in their background (bloodline).

Raijū (Jäger x Morgana) was, to me, a better version of his sire Jäger [photo on the left]. He had traits that both his parents display. He was far from the perfect AB (no AB ever is but there are so many that have beed seen to be close to one), but I could see traits that are actually much improved versions from that of Jäger. Unfortunately, I lost him too soon and was never bred, so I will never find out whether or not he’d become a stud dog.

So going back to what Mr. Scott said, “A stud dog is a male that when bred to different types of females will constantly improve himself.” Jäger definitely improved himself when I bred him to Morgana, and I have also seen better versions of himself from his breeding with Zuri of Kamadala. He has definitely earned that distinction here. The ‘Big Daddy’. But he is aging and I have to find that dog who will take the line to the next stage.

For now, two males remain [brothers Dzico, top right; and Daimōn, bottom right] as prospects to establish their lines in the future. They are not by Jäger but by Goblin who is off of a totally unrelated bloodline to him or his half-sister Morgana. Do they have the traits that I should be looking for in a stud dog based on the bloodline they are bred from? Only time will tell. But they have been ticking boxes and they are quite promising. But until the day I’m finally convinced and decide as to whether they are going to become stud dogs or not, they remain just as they are… prospects.

People can argue that of course we can expect better dogs because the bi***es are ‘excellent’. True. But however good or exceptional the bitch is if the stud is incapable of throwing his best traits into the pool (reproduces his flaws instead), we have just wasted a good bitch.

The question is, will one of these two males (or both) be a ‘stud dog’ considering the definition expressed by Mr. Scott? We will see. I believe their time will come — sooner or later. But for the time being, he they are just lowly MALE DOGS in this yard.
