Fist off - I thought these were melons. 1st tray mix up or seed mix up of the season 🤷🏻‍♀️

2- I had no idea squash bugs were so sneaky. They hide *under* the main stem and will dance around it to avoid being seen … it’s like they can tell when in your field of view. Crazy!

3- I thought this flying bug was a feather legged fly… a pest of squash bugs! But it is the dreaded Squash Vine Boar!!! 👹I let it be and then researched it and now I’m 🤦🏻‍♀️

4- IPM on our small farm means hand picking every other day or so. And we’ve been able to save -almost- all the melons… I mean zucchini. ✨

Each student did a practice run down and back 1 row and then we poured the seeds in… 2nd round of radish and Hakurie Turnip, and a bed of lettuce in the ground!

And looks like the plants 🌱 are too… found this little volunteer sprout under the tarp.

Also, under the tarp- lots of vole holes… 😬 stay tuned for how we manage that.

Our soil looks great and we have compost ordered! Ready to refresh and rebuild.✨ bringing the school along for the ride this year and can’t wait to watch the students and the farm grow!

Our sweet corn is toddler approved! 🌽👶🏼(Which is a very hard approval to get!!)

In our year zero here at Hide and Seek farm we have put in on average 5- 10 hours per WEEK. That is not much time in the farming world.So I am thrilled to be harvesting!! 🤗

We are learning so many good lessons along the way!

Our farm name is so fitting at harvest time … walking around and seeking the crops that are ready to be harvested is so rewarding! We look forward to setting up a proper wash pack station and sharing the harvest with our community soon!

Fun fact: Sweet potatoes are in the morning glory family so they grow from slips and have edible leaves and flowers! (Unlike potatoes which are nightshades!)
