Our little buddy Clefton could really use your help! He was born with a cleft palate and was scheduled to be euthanized. We stepped in with the plan to give him a full belly and loving arms as he left this earth, but to our surprise, he thrived! Clefton is strictly fed through a gastric tube, and without surgery, he will not survive longterm. Cleft palate repair in kittens is extremely uncommon, as most kittens either don’t thrive, or are euthanized due to the cost and emotional/physical labor of caring for them. We are happy to say that we have found a specialist willing to do this procedure, which is great! However, it is quite a distance away from us (2,800 miles, to be exact 😬) and comes with a hefty price tag. We could really use your help to share his story and help him reach his goal. Hey, everyone, meet Clefton! He's Sonar's latest foster brother. He's a special needs baby we took in when he was referred for euthanasia.

8 weeks of strict tube feeding have passed, and we have begun the process of exploring options for Clefton's cleft palate repair. It just so happens that while at the VMX expo, I actually met the man that orchestrated all of the care for Chouchou, the famous cleft palate kitten who had surgical repair in 2022. He is going to help us get Clefton the care he needs, but of course, it comes at a cost. Clefton is not officially under the rescue (only because I feel bad always bringing in the most extensive, pricey cases), so I thought I'd try to raise as much as I can before resorting to begging on the streets. If you can't donate, that's okay, but we would truly appreciate you sharing his story and helping us get him to UC Davis. Thank you!

It's impossible to watch tv with him in the room, for two reasons. One, because he's just so dang cute, and two, because ... what on earth is he looking at?! His eyes have been locked like this for almost 10 minutes. There's no one behind me. 🫣

I really, really think Sonar needs to be a model for Chewy, PetSmart, or Petco. He has over 30k followers on TikTok, but I'm told he needs an Instagram to get attention. I'm not exactly organized enough for these things. How would one get started with animal modeling if they had the actual cutest cat on the planet?

Meet Sonar's new little foster brother, Bowser! Bowser was born with megaesophagus, so he came to our zoo for specialized medical care when he was born. He's been here for 8 weeks, and everyone who has met him has fallen head over heels. Sonar's head sure makes Bowser seem tiny! We are simply smitten with them both. 😍

Today is a BIG day! Sonar is THREE! We celebrated by going to the pet store and allowing him to choose his gift. I told him he could have anything he wanted (except live creatures!) and he very confidently chose a cat tree. He walked right over to it, climbed to the top, and started giving himself a bath. Of course he chose a $200 tree and not some $5 catnip. Our boy knows his worth! 🤣 Everyone who saw him was enthralled, asking more about him and if they could take photos. Of all the people we saw tonight, not a single one had ever seen a Bengal before! One person asked if all bengals had such big heads 🫣🫠 After leaving the pet store, we headed to Chick Fil A for his yearly treat of nuggets. He's now home, snuggled up on his new gift, thankful for another year of defying the odds.

Any type of rain storm is always difficult for Sonar. Barometric pressure changes drastically effect the fluid around his brain, leaving him quiet and sleepy for a day or two before it rains. The impending hurricane is kicking his butt this time, causing noticeable pressure in his skull. I was taken aback by the areas of bulging that appeared last night. We're in the mid-Atlantic region of the East Coast (United States), so we're projected to feel the effects of Hurricane Ian Friday-Saturday. I love wild weather, but our poor boy suffers, and that breaks my heart. 💔
