Check out these glow up from molly!
Found this footage from over a year ago in my backyard when molly didn't live with me. I think she was wondering what an earth nathan had done lmao. She had no engagement and drive when is started and now she can't get enough of it! Hard work does pay off.
Enrichment activies are great for your dog and there's so much variety to choose from ranging in price! It's important to make sure what you choose is safe. Examples include puzzle toys, snuffle mats, scattered feeding, kong wobblers, orbees, lickimats, treats in boxes. There's heaps of ideas online and we sell a few of these items.
This toy from nina ottosman range proved to be even a challenge for me to put back together...... in the end I looked at the picture and copied it- see I'm smart! Haha.
Thank you for choosing to train with us today. Lacey and Tucker did so well!
For Tucker it was a brush up on some old skills and learning some new.
For Lacey it was all about markers and building engagement. Welcome to windy Wollert. They both did so well!
Look at these guys go!
A young team kicking goals!
They might give Lexie and I a run for our money in a few months!
Check it out! We got middle, heel, spin, round, tunnel, paws on box, lured heeling, and not shown but the start of jump into my arms. Love training with these guys they both have so much enthusiasm! Reminds me of me with my dog molly at this age
Let's teach the bed/place command
Pick a Bed: Choose a comfy bed or mat.
Introduce It: Show the bed to your dog and throw a few treats on it to get them nterested
Guide:Lure your dog onto the bed and mark with "YES" and reward, release with "free"
Add cue: say "bed" and then lure your dog onto the mat with treat. mark "Yes" and reward. Hold for 3- 5 seconds and release "free"
Lots of reward: Praise and treat your dog for getting on the bed.
Increase Duration: Gradually extend the time your dog stays on the bed. Remember to release your dog with "free" and go back to your pup to free them up.
Practice: Be consistent and keep sessions short and positive. Training sessions should be no longer than 5-10 minutes
Look at lovely Leo!
We worked on engagement, loose lead walking, recall and a few fun tricks and confidence building exercises. He was a blast to train with so much drive. He has a lot of potential for more advanced work. Look how happy his owner is, they have a beautiful Bond which will only continue to grow.
Norman and his humans braved the cold, wet and rainy weather today. We worked on Norman's engagement and focus, introduced a slip lead and leash pressure to help his loose lead walking. His owners would like to work on his reactivity but before we can do that we need the dog to understand markers, and be engaged. We discussed DMT and thresholds and things they can do. Norman showed his quite clever starting to learn round, touch and middle. Nice job. I love seeing kids training and playing with their dogs.
Notice our lovely Biothane long lead from Unchained Collars . Waterproof and stink proof, great for Melbourne weather!
It's a bit windy and cold out there!
Here is an exercise for you to try with your dog to build engagement and your recall. Have your dog on a long line or inside your house. Throw the treat out, the dog should run to get it as they finish and turned towards you call the dog name and say "come" and run backwards. Mark "yes" and reward your dog with a couple of treats and also practice a collar grab. Repeat, making it fun for the dog and practice in different places
Just a couple of tricks from Lexie.
Shame, roll-over, beg, dance and cop cop. She's so cute
Both dogs can now "orbit"
Nice job molly! You can teach your dog this too but you want to start with "back up" let me know in the comments if your interested in another trick workshop
This warms my heart so much on a tough day. Seeing the future of our dog training and seeing the beautiful Bond these two are building. Super work from these guys! I remember my first dog and how special she was.
Can see a huge change with Milo.
He is so much more engaged with us. He still isn't food focused or toy driven so that makes it a little harder for his owners but there are strategies to help with this. Ie hand feeding, introducing tug and flirt poles. A lot of Milos training is getting his energy drained and making sure he is having fun. Milo has deffinitely come along way from the stressed out shut down dog week 1.
Daisy is a big strong girl but tries very hard to be gentle and a good girl!
We discussed the importance of play and finding outlets for all of her energy. Flirt poles are a great idea for this? Scatter feeding, obedience and trick training. It's not enough for a dog to be physically exhausted they also have to be mentally enriched. We introduced markers and used a clicker. Worked on strategies to stop jumping and then we tackled loose lead walking. Daisy is a strong girl. We switched her onto a slip lead and taught her about leash pressure and showed her there is an end of the lead. She did so well in her first session. Well done.
Little ralphie the 13 week old cavoodle and his best friend showing how to get it done. She already taught him how to sit and shake hands and with our coaching should be ready to ace their puppy class at pet barn. We went through markers, beginning of heel and loose lead walking, sit, drop, middle, engagement, place, crate, play and give. It's a 6 week puppy class rolled into an hour. Ralphie was a star. Had so much get up and go!
I have availability tomorrow for anyone looking for a session. One session can make a huge difference and give you things to work on.
In just 2 sessions Milo has made so much progress. First session we introduced marker words and a little about leash pressure and loose lead walking. Milo was pretty shut down and had no engagement in the session, the park was very over stimulating for him. We spoke about the importance of ditching the bowl, hand feeding and food chasing games. 2nd session we focused on play and breed fufulliment. I introduced Milo to flirt poles, tugging and the importance long lines can have .
He looked like a different dog and you see his little prance in his steps. Beautiful dog with a lot of potential once it's fully unlocked. Nice job!
Only $20!!
Dogs absoloutly love these with their favourite treats inside.
My go to is yoghurt and berries. Into the freezer for a few hours!
Some of the many dogs that have benefited from a session with
Dog Training with Sam. We thank you for choosing us to help you on this dog training journey
We did some real world dog training with Dimov at the shopping centre. We showed him that he can't say hi to everyone he meets and how to stay calm under distractions, and there was a lot of them! We worked on confidence building exercises, loose leash walking, leave it. There were loud trolleys and cars, children, people and lots of sights and sounds. A great "socialising" training walk. Well done!
The gorgeous Thumbi has been working so hard! He likes to stop on walks and then refuses to move. Through leash pressure and a balance training approach we have been able to teach him to give into the pressure and move into it. His loose leash walking has improved so much. We introduced his family to the fun of long lines and sniffari walks and recall training. We have seen some huge improvements but training is an ongoing thing that we need to incorporate into our daily life and needs to be enjoyable for both dog and owner. Well done to these guys!
