My precious girl went to the rainbow bridge on the 30/01/2019
No more will I see her beautiful face or hear her walking around or barking at the door. At nearly 16 yrs of age she had kidney failure, mass cell tumours on her liver and was fading away fast, she hadn’t eaten in 4 days and was on her 2nd day of not drinking.
The kindest thing to do was to let her go while she still was the proud dog she had always been, and before the pain got unbearable for her.
She had one more walk along the beach in her buggy with me and her NaN and one more nap snuggled up with her mum.
When the time came She was with her mum, dad and her children (my son and daughter) who she had gone through both pregnancies with and had raised with me.
We gave her her wings to fly while at home and the house will never be the same.😢
She will be missed so much and will always remain in my heart.
Thank you all that joined this page to watch our ventures of home cooking for Amber. ❤️💔❤️

Good afternoon all. As you will have noticed I am not posting any more.😞
The reason for this is my little girls light is sadly slowly turning off 💔
In the past months she has stopped wanting to go out and we know she is deaf and Suspect that she is now going blind (hence why she is not wanting to go out) she is slowly loosing her lustre that once was for life and I have decided my time will be better spent enjoying what’s left of her time with me.
At the ripe old age of 15 she’ll soon be 16 in February and I may have months left with her I’m not sure? But whatever is left we will enjoy together.💕
Thank you all that joined our journey on discovering home cooked food for dogs and I shall now enjoy what time I have left with my Amber. Xx

Yesterday mum went to Iceland’s 🤣
I bought....
1 bag of frozen chicken mince
1bag of frozen lamb mince
1 bag of frozen diced beef
£8.50 for the 3 items
I came home and looked in the cupboard and found brown rice, red lentils, carrots and sweet potato
I’ve made a weeks worth of food for £8.50!
Do you think that’s expensive?
Where do you buy your meats from and how much do you pay?

Liver stew 🤮
Hahaha... Amber loved it!!
Make sure if your pampered pooch is not a vegee lover to mash those carrots and sweet potato once cooked 😳

LIVER STEW
0.240kg lamb liver
Half a tin of washed chickpeas
1 carrot
1 large or 2 small sweet potatoes
1 1/2 cups of water

Chop carrot and sweet potato into bite size pieces and wash and mash chickpeas. With scissors cut the liver into bite size pieces to.
Put a tablespoon of olive oil into a deep frying pan and fry liver until brown.
Then add water, carrots, sweet potato and mashed chickpeas bring to the boil and then simmer for 30-40 minutes until meat and veg are soft.
Voila a lovely stew for Amber and friends.🤗
Liver is packed with nutrients, having a large amount of vitamin A, B, iron. It is a fantastic source of protein.
Please be sure to not feed a dish with liver more than twice a week as there is a risk of vitamin A overdose. Symptoms of this can be weight loss, weakness, stiffness and constipation to name a few!
But the benefits of feeding liver to dogs is improved coat appearance, muscles, nerves, skin and vision improvement.
In fact this whole meal is beneficial to your dogs sensory skills and appearance.
And don’t forget to mash your carrots and sweet potato!! As you’ll see Amber sussed me right out 🤭🤣🤣

Let’s make some ice pupsicles.😉

1 ripe banana
32 oz of plain yogurt
2 TBS of smooth peanut butter (check ingredients for Xylitol and don’t use if it’s in it!)
2 TBS of honey

Mash banana and mix all other ingredients and pop into some plastic cups. Filling them up half way. Cover cups with foil and freeze.
Once frozen cut the cup away and pop into a bowl to cool our pampered pooches.

So earlier this week I made a dish with salmon.
Salmon for dogs is very good as long as it’s good before serving. Serving raw salmon to a dog can give them parasites and make them very sick indeed.😞
If served cooked then the fats in salmon can be very beneficial to their skin and coat and can actually support the immune system.
Salmon is an excellent source of omega3.
Feed it fresh (skin removed as is to fatty and can cause digestive issues) or from a tin as long as it has no brine or oil with it. The salt and oil can be harmful to them. Only salmon in water should be used.😊

Plain low fat yoghurt is very good for our dogs (as long as they are not lactose intolerant of course!)
If you have a puppy sometimes they can be prone to yeast infections. So a little bit of plain yoghurt as a treat or maybe a desert can help keep the good bacteria in your puppies intestines balanced.
The same goes for dogs that are on antibiotics, a common side effect of these are yeast infections so a little bit of plain yoghurt will do them good. 😊

Good evening ladies and gentlemen 😊
So today I spent a small fortune 😵
Having scoured through what is power food for the older dog I went out and bought
Salmon fillet
2 for £7 (one pack for me and one for Amber)
Savoy cabbage £0.79p
Milled chia seeds £2.49
And used from the cupboard and fridge brown rice, sweet potato and 5 mini asparagus stems I had left over.
I Chopped up the asparagus, 2 leaves from the Savoy cabbage and sweet potato into small bits and added these to a pot with enough water to be able to cover the ingredients but be able to lay the salmon on top to steam. I added 2 small handfuls of brown rice. Skinned the fillet of salmon and laid this on top. Covered the pot and steamed for 12 minutes. It smelled lovely!
Drained the ingredients leaving a little bit of the juice in it and mushed it up a little with a fork to make it soft. Then I added a half A tsp of chia seeds (milled)
Served up my culinary delight and can you believe Amber had a nibble and then walked off looking very disappointed 😳😂😂
If your pampered pooch likes vegetables and salmon then the ingredients used in this recipe are a power food for senior dogs, and as long as they have no allergies to fish can be served maybe once or twice a month. (Due to the cost😣)
I will explain the benefits of each individual ingredient soon.
As you will see I ended up eating the rest 🤣🤣 well at that price!!!!😳

*Sardines*
Have you ever fed these to your dog?
I was at the vets the other day and got to speaking to the receptionist who was telling me that she gives her dogs a sardine every day!!
And not fresh sardines but ones from a tin 😳
So of course I came home and started researching 👍
I found out that although these fish are small they are packed with nutritional value and being small is a plus when it comes to our dogs as all fish contain mercury which can be harmful to dogs in big amounts.
Now when buying you must make sure they are in no sauce and that includes oil. Just plain spring water and make sure your buying one with the lowest sodium content to.
One small sardine contains about 25 calories and 175mg of omega 3 fatty acids so this is a good dose for a dog weighing 20lbs or less.
If you decide to start feeding them to yours then start slowly maybe offering a nibble and then half by the end of the first week so as not to cause stomach upset.
If your feeding to many then your dog will start to get a fishy smell and if this happens then you’ll need to cut back so keep an open nose when feeding.
The water from the tin can also be used as a gravy either in there dry food or wet as this is full of goodness to and why not add a dash or two of turmeric ? As this is all benefitting nutritional health value.
If your poochy loves sardines then it’s a great way to give pills as well. Simply crush the tablet and add to the water from the tin. 😉😉😉
I will suggest asking your vet how much sardines you should feed your dog before you actually do though please as it’s always best to be certain and I am no nutritionist I am simply a dog owner like you that wants the best for my little girl. X

So today I gave Amber a change from rice (and I won’t be using pasta again as she didn’t like it! And it has no value I’ve since learned to a dogs diet other than help to put weight on 🤭)
So today’s meal she thoroughly enjoyed and this one I would feed to a baby even as the ingredients together looked lush and healthy once cooked 😍

Ingredients are:
2 small/medium potatoes cubed
1 orange sweet potato cubed
500g mince meat
2 stalks of frozen broccoli
Cost was £1.69 for the mince as I had the rest at home 😊

I cooked the cubed sweet and normal potato in water until going soft and then added the mincemeat and broccoli to the water and then cooked until broccoli was soft.
I then put all ingredients into a bowl and mashed until combined. Adding some of the stock created while cooking.
End result she loved it.😊 And it’s packed full of vitamins and nutritional value
Sweet potato is good for digestion and contains vitamin B6, C and magnesium
Broccoli and potato can be fed as a treat now and then but not constantly.
Mince meat is a protein power house 😊

So I must present my failures as well as my successes 🤦‍♀️
Today on the menu was..
Wholewheat pasta
Turkey fillets
Frozen mixed vegetables
Popped in a pot with water and once boiled turned down to simmer until pasta was cooked 😬
As you will see it didn’t go down very well 😣
This was Ambers way of telling me I think that
A. It was bland as hell 🤢
B. She doesn’t want to put on weight 😵
See although I used wholewheat which is a lot healthier, pasta is just a filler. It has no nutritional value and can if fed to much cause weight gain and other health issues. 😱
So IF I ever cook this again then I’ll cook it maybe once/twice a month and maybe add some cottage cheese or some zero salt stock!
But yes, there’s to many carbs in this one so not an every day feed folks. X

15/06/2018

So tonight I thought I’d try something different which is always a risk with my Amber 😬
Couscous and broccoli 😱
Yes I know broccoli can cause gastric pain but only if fed in large quantities.. if fed occasionally it can be a nutritious additive to your dogs plate adding fibre and vitamins.
And couscous is a power food for dogs but again do not feed a large portion of this when dishing up dinner for them as it contains selenium which is an antioxidant. But dogs should not eat to much selenium so portions need to be small and mixed with other nutritional items to get the benefit of it.
Couscous also contains vitamin B6, magnesium and protein.
So today’s menu was:

2 stalks of frozen broccoli (from the freezer)
A handful and a bit of couscous (a bag cost 79p)
And 500g of mince meat (£1.49)
And she’ll have 3-4 meals from this being a medium dog.
Boil up some water and when boiling add your mince and broccoli. When meat turns brown and broccoli soft add your couscous, stir and put a lid on it for 4-5 minutes.
Drain and cut up the broccoli into small bits. Then serve 😊
As you can see 👀 dinner was a success 👍👍👍
Love them ears!! ❤️❤️❤️

Golden paste
Just like us humans dogs can suffer with inflammation as well.
So I introduce to you...
ORGANIC TURMERIC
Said to protect against cancer 😳
💥 It’s a powerful antioxidant
💥 A natural inflammatory
💥 Can help and prevent cancer
💥 Protests the liver against dangerous toxins
💥 Treats diabetes
💥 Controls blood pressure
💥 Reduces cholesterol
💥 Increases the hearts and circulatory function

🤗WOW🤗

Ingredients

1/2 cup of ORGANIC turmeric powder
1 to 1 1/2 cups of filtered water
1 1/2 tsp of freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup of ORGANIC Coconut oil

Mix turmeric with water in a pan
Start with 1 cup of water adding more if needed
Stir on medium heat for about 10 minutes
It should form a thick paste
(If it looks watery then add a bit more of turmeric and leave on the heat for a few more minutes)
Once the paste is formed add the pepper and oil
Stir it well
Let it cool and store in a jar in the fridge. Can be stored like this for 2 weeks
To give it to your dog start by putting 1/4 to 1/2 tsp directly in their meals. Let your dog get used to the change in taste and then you can increase the amount up to 1 Tbsp for large dogs.
Feed in smaller amounts a few times every day. 😊

A good friend of mine was approached the other day in regards to their dogs weight!
While we all like to see dogs with a bit of meat on their ribs, I feel people accuse others of not looking after their dog if the dog in question does not look like the second from last dog in this picture!
If a dog is active or old then most will not carry weight as a young under exercised dog will.
It saddens me that people are quick to judge others on a subject they don’t understand. 😞

RECIPE TIME 😊
Amber use to love an ice cube but unfortunately now her teeth are no longer made for such delights 😢
However if your doggy still has strong teeth then a good way to cool our friends down in the heat is by making these.

PUPPY ICE POPS

1 Large banana
2 tablespoons natural peanut butter (please make sure ingredients don’t say Xylitol and no added salt or sugar)
2 tablespoons of honey
17.6 ounce plain Greek non fat yoghurt
Edible healthy dog chew

Put the banana in a blender until smooth then add peanut butter and honey and blend until smooth.
Add the yoghurt and blend for another 3 minutes until mixture is thick and smooth.
Place into plastic cups or ice cube trays for a single serving and pop a dog chew in the centre upright. If they start to lean then place some crumpled tin foil around the top to secure.
Place inthe freezer to freeze. Once frozen place the bottom of the cups into a shallow plate of hot water to make the frozen pops pop out. 😊

Good afternoon all 👋
Hope your all well? Who has heard of the benefits of pumpkin?
It is a great aid for our dogs digestive system. And as long as it’s peeled, cooked and all seeds removed (as they can be poisonous) these vegetable can be a staple ingredient in your dogs diet.
If your dog has grain allergies then adding some spaghetti squash to there food can be a good replacement for rice and pasta! You’ll only need a little (about the same amount I used in this recipe)
If your dog is arthritic or needs anti inflammatory help then this is packed with vitamin A and can help.
Also packed with Beta-carotene,fiber,potassium,
magnesium,Vitamin C&E And folate so as you will see the benefits are amazing.
This vegetable can be served occasionally and will help if your dog has a poorly belly as well. So worth making a few treats to give them on such occasion. I will follow up with a recipe for some pumpkin treats this week end but for now.
Today’s recipe is simply..

500g Turkey mince
1 cup of White rice
A half cup of butternut squash
And a handful of spring greens chopped.

Boil rice, spring green and peeled and deseeded chopped pumpkin for 10 minute and then add your mince meat and cook for another 10 minutes or until pumpkin is soft.
Once cooked put in a bowl and squash your pumpkin. You can use a fork but I prefer to use my hands.
Leave to cool and serve. X

Good evening all. Hope your all well 😊
Have you ever given your dog herbs? Some herbs are very good for them. But, like anything else you must keep an eye out for any signs of allergies when you do.
Here is a list of good herbs and what they can do 🐶

TURMERIC:
Used for centuries for its medicinal purposes due to having a bio active ingredient called curcumin.
Adding Turmeric to your dogs diet can ward off cancer, fight inflammation, aid digestion, kill dangerous parasites and boost their mood
A little of this goes a long way when using in the food and for every 10lb of body weight just 1/4 of a teaspoon needs to be used.

MILK THISTLE:
Extremely healthy for humans and a absolute miracle herb for our dogs!
A powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory helping to improve your dogs digestive system.
Adding 1/4 teaspoon per 20 pounds of body weight can help flush out harmful toxins in our dogs body. Vets say this herb is so powerful that if a dog was to eat a poisonous substance this would help to clean this system (please take to the vet ASAP if they do eat something poisonous though won’t you.X)

GINGER:
Another super spice. Can help to soothe a dogs upset stomach, relieves nausea and ease motion sickness.
Ask your vet for advice on correct dosage for your dogs size.

BASIL:
Has antioxidant, antiviral, anti microbial and anti fungal properties. Said to fight arthritis and inflammation in the bowels. Can also help with stress and anxiety. So I’ll have to think of some dog treat recipes using this herb for those that have anxious dogs 😊

MINT:
Doggy breath.... 😫!!!!!!
Used in moderation is good for their breath and digestive health.
Wild mint, spearmint and peppermint are good but English pennyroyal (mentha pulegium) not good And should be avoided.

PARSLEY:
Another fresh breath herb that’s considered safe in dry, fresh or even tea form but use in moderation.
Known to fight inflammation, stomach upsets, fight arthritis, fight urinary tract infections and aid detoxification.

So there you have it..
Herbs that can be used when cooking for your dog at home. X

So last night I was feeling lazy 😬 I considered popping to the shop to get a tin of dog food!!!!!
🤣🤣🤣 Of course I’m joking!!!!
My LAZY MEAL tonight for Amber was...
Brown Rice
Turkey fillet
Sweet potato
Sweet potato cut into cubes, and all ingredients popped into the pan all at the same time and left to cook for 20 mins!
How easy is that 😊

Sweet potato is a super food for Amber as it has high levels of fibre that aid a healthy digestion.
It ranks as the highest vegetable on the nutrition scale as it has vitamin A, C, Manganese and iron in it 😊
