Juniper Needs Emergency Surgery!

We need help getting Juniper the surgery she needs ASAP. She has an appointment scheduled for December 9th.

She has feline chronic gingivo-stomatitis (FCGS) or just "stomatitis", as it is often called.

Feline stomatitis is a severe and painful condition that involves inflammation and the formation of ulcers in your cat's gums, cheeks, and tongue. These open sores can lead to significant discomfort and pain for your cat, ultimately causing them to avoid or even refuse to eat.

By definition, stomatitis means inflammation of the mucus lining in the mouth. In clinical use the term actually describes wide-spread severe oral inflammation (beyond gingivitis and periodontitis) that may also extend into deeper tissues.

The exact cause of stomatitis remains unknown, but it is widely believed to be an immune-mediated disorder where the cat's immune system overreacts to dental plaque and bacteria on the tooth surface.

Juniper has already lost some of her teeth and she has received antibiotic treatment and pre-surgery bloodwork, but she needs surgery to remove the rest of her teeth. She can then live a long, happy life without her teeth.

The Importance of Socializing Kittens and How to Do It Effectively

Kittens are some of the most adorable and playful creatures on the planet. They are curious, cute, and cuddly. However, as cute as they are, they are also very delicate creatures who need proper care and attention. One of the most important things you can do to ensure that your kitten grows up to be a well-adjusted and happy adult cat is to socialize them effectively.

1. Why Socialization is Important

Socializing your kitten is important because it helps them feel comfortable and safe around people and other animals. This is especially important if you have other pets or plan to introduce them to other animals in the future. Kittens who are not socialized may become fearful, anxious, or aggressive towards other animals or people. Proper socialization can help your kitten develop positive social skills that will help them thrive throughout their life.

2. When to Start Socializing Your Kitten

The best time to start socializing your kitten is when they are between two to seven weeks old, as this is known as the "critical period" for socialization. During this time, kittens are highly receptive to new experiences and are more likely to accept and adapt to new situations. However, if you adopt an older kitten or adult cat, it's never too late to start socializing them.

3. How to Socialize Your Kitten

The key to socializing your kitten is to introduce them slowly and in a controlled way to new experiences, people, and other animals. Start by exposing them to new sights, sounds, and smells in your home environment. Encourage positive experiences by giving them treats or toys when they explore new things. Once your kitten is comfortable with your home environment, you can start introducing them to other people and animals.

Gradually introduce your kitten to other animals by starting with just one, and supervising their interactions closely. If your kitten becomes fearful or aggressive, remove them from the situation and try again later. Positive reinforcement is key to effective socialization. Always reward your kitten with treats, praise, and attention for positive behavior.

4. Tips for Effective Socialization

Here are a few tips for effective socialization:

-Expose your kitten to a variety of people, animals, and experiences.

-Be patient and take your time to ensure that your kitten feels comfortable.

-Use positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior.

-If your kitten becomes fearful or aggressive, remove them from the situation and try again later.

-Get your kitten used to being handled by people, and encourage them to play and explore.

Socializing your kitten is crucial for their overall well-being and development. It helps your kitten become comfortable around new experiences, people, and animals, and helps them develop positive social skills.

By starting early and taking your time, you can effectively socialize your kitten and ensure that they grow up to be a happy, confident, and well-adjusted adult cat. Remember to use positive reinforcement and be patient, and you'll have a happy and healthy kitten in no time!

Vitali is in need of funds for her medical care. All funds donated will go directly to her foster, Jen, who has already paid some out of pocket for her care.

This sweet little girl has a leg injury in her front leg/paw. She needs splinting and rest while it heals, then she needs more x-rays and re-splinting to ensure it is healing properly. This could be an up to 8 week process.

She will also need her shots - but she had fever from inflammation on her last visits and couldn't get them yet. And she will need her spay when she is big enough.

Please help us get her leg treated so she can continue to grow healthy and strong!

Our beautiful mama Creamsicle is overdue for an annual vet visit, and she also needs some bloodwork taken for a medical issue she's been having.

Although she is tamed up with us, she is still a feral cat and may need to be sedated for the vet to get blood and provide shots and exam. This is an extra fee, and it also means she is excluded from shot clinics and other discount programs.

We need $250 for her appointment, and we'd really appreciate any help!

We accept PayPal, CashApp (AthenaHugs), Venmo(AthenaHugs), donations to our PP fundraiser, checks, and cash from locals. You can also call the vet directly and put a deposit for credit on our account. For the latter, feel free to request that info from me. Our account is at the Cat Care Hospital in GSO.
