Hi, I'm Sherry - in 2014 I noticed the stay cats living by the beach in a colony as I was on my way to work - I started to feed them and was slowly able to gain their trust. Before I knew it, I turned into a proper 'cat lady'! They chillout in the pine trees where they spend the mornings sleeping, and scamper down when they notice me coming. At midday they often roam in search for adventures. It's
really survival of the fittest for them - they are often in danger from the dogs who get taken for walks in the same area, and let off the leash so they can get 'exercise' chasing these poor kitties! I noticed that there are also other people feeding the cats as there is always fresh water put out for them and the nearby bins are full of cat food tins and bags. I got talking to a lady and she told me that there is a cat association that takes care of the other cats in several other colonies, but there wasn't enough volunteers for this particular colony, so - I decided to try and get in contact with the cat association - The City Council got back to my message and put me in touch with the association - who in turn put me in touch with a wonderful lady who helps out animals in need with all her heart - She and I now use our spare time to try and round up the cats and get them sterilised/neutered. We release them back into the wild, and continue to visit them from time to time to make sure they are ok. They are multiplying as it's hard to round them - we are very worried that the Council might come and 'take them away' when their numbers are too big! It's our mission to find them loving forever homes! This colony is full of very loving cats! Most of them let me pet them. They are clean and very calm cats. I even took one home myself and she has adapted so well - I've named her 'Jewel' and she really is just that! Please let me know if you would like a cat to be a part of your family! The association will make sure they are sterilised/neutered, give them a chip and a health record book. Ana and I do not profit from this at all - In order to give a cat a home, you will need to donate 120eur which has to be paid at the vets - The money goes towards the cat association - please contact me for more information! Thank you
