By the window, tail a-thump,
Ears perked, heart a steady drum,
I wait for you, my human dear,
The silence hangs heavy, thick with fear.
The sun has set, the shadows creep,
My whimpers echo, soft and deep.
I pace the floor, restless and worn,
Wishing for the light of your return.
Each creak and sigh, a burst of hope,
That you'll walk through the door, end my scope
Of anxious longing, the solitude's ache,
Just one more glance, for goodness sake.
The clock ticks on, a cruel refrain,
But still I hold onto this hope, like a chain.
That soon your hand will find my head,
And I'll be filled with joy, instead.
So here I wait, with patient grace,
For your familiar scent, your loving embrace.
For in your eyes, my world is whole,
And you are home, my precious soul.
