Please think about checking your dogs before going to the groomers. This poor local groomer had a nasty experience which could have been avoided if the dogs had been treated regularly. As a small business I felt it was important to share.

It isn't very often I post anything negative but I had a rather unpleasant experience with a customer today and I feel as a small business owner it's right to make people aware of some of the things we deal with.
I had two dogs booked in this afternoon from the same customer. Anyone who has been to us before is aware that we are a cage free salon so the dogs roam free, mixing with others, we believe this creates a happier environment for the dogs than a salon that uses cages, making the grooming experience less stressful for them.
A few minutes after starting the groom on one of the dogs it was identified the dog had a severe flea infestation, a quick check on the second also showed the same. The dogs had already been in the salon for 10 minutes, I phoned the customer to let them know that unfortunately we couldn't do the groom and could the dogs be collected ASAP. The customer was rather rude on the phone and also when the dogs were collected, and was annoyed that they had to come back and collect the dogs when they had gone out somewhere. The customer did not pay anything.
Each dog takes roughly two hours to groom so not only have we lost the price of the two grooms, as the dogs were mixing with another dog, I had to inform the owner of the other dog and offer to pay for flea treatment. I then had to cancel my next dog to ensure they didn't contract fleas on my premises, another loss of a groom, and will spend the whole evening deep cleaning and disinfecting before using a flea bomb.
I understand dogs sometimes have fleas and if it is one or two fleas we are happy to remove them and carry out the groom but as explained, a sever infestation can have a big impact on our small business. Please check and treat your dogs regularly.

Wow it's been a hot week and we do our best to keep our dogs (as well as us)cool whilst out walking. This lake looked so inviting! The dogs managed a paddle, I could have gone too! I was also spotting wild orchids.
