Dog Shoutout!
Count Dooku recently got to go on a little field trip with our volunteers and he truly lived up to his name as a “gentledog”. He walked calmly on Vernon Street, behaved perfectly around other dogs and people, and enjoyed a relaxing break at the The Fig Tree Coffee, Art, & Music Lounge. We have a heart wrenchingly beautiful story about Jasmin. Her family sent us a beautiful update, read what they shared about Jasmin:
"We adopted Jasmin at the age of 18. Her hearing and vision were very limited. Our hearts went out to her the moment we saw her photo online. We were only visiting the shelter to donate, but we knew we had to take her home. We were told she was owner surrendered due to owner having dementia. She had been loved by a single owner almost her entire life. We knew Jasmin deserved love and comfort for whatever time she had left. She became a part of our family very quickly. Our two other senior dogs were very accepting and gentle. Jasmin received nearly round the clock affection and care for her remaining days. We miss her, but we know she was loved and gave love to those who knew her. " - Jasmin's Family ❤️

The Placer SPCA is celebrating 45 years of helping homeless and abandoned pets in Placer County. What our community made possible during this time is nothing short of incredible. In 1973, a group of devoted volunteers started the Placer SPCA. With no facility, they relied on the kindness of foster families to house and care for the homeless pets in our community. It wasn’t until 1995 that our Companion Animal Care Center was completed, where we have since housed nearly 50,000 cats, dogs, and critters in need.
Today, we are just months away from moving into Phase I of our brand new campus (more on that below). But there is more work to be done than ever before. In 2018, help us serve even more pets and their families in Placer County by making a general donation, buying a brick at our new campus, donating food or items for the animals, donating part of your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to satisfy your required minimum distribution, or donating your used car. Here at the Placer SPCA, we are just months away from completing Phase I of our brand new Adoption and Education Center. This project has been in the works for more than a decade, and when complete, will serve as both a community space and animal welfare facility, where people and animals can unite in a calm, stress-free environment.
Design of our new facility incorporates research and recommendations by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Similar to the transformations of zoos from cages to livable habitats, the trend in animal shelters is to create environments for companion animals that
provide a home-like setting more suitable for promoting the animals’ adoptability into family life. Since the ultimate outcome for this new center is a permanent home for every adoptable animal, the center’s overall architecture focuses on reducing each animal’s length of stay and enhancing their adoptability.
The new Placer SPCA center and headquarters will be centrally located at the corner of Yosemite Street and Tahoe Avenue near downtown Roseville, with convenient freeway access to I-80. This 41,000 square foot building (a sharp contrast from the 10,000 square foot facility we’re in now) sits on just over two acres and will include several park-like features for the enjoyment of center animals and guests alike.
This project was made possible by hundreds of individuals, businesses and foundations. And we are so very grateful.
