NEW PRODUCT ALERT!
This weekend I'm going to be a busy "bee" because we have a new product being unveiled soon...BEESWAX FOOD WRAPS!
What is a Beeswax Food Wrap?
-Beeswax Food Wraps are an alternative to plastic wrap. They can be used to seal containers, jars, bowls, etc. of perishable food items. It is a sustainable alternative to utilizing cling wrap, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, sandwich baggies, or other one-use wraps/bags.
Why should I use a Beeswax Food Wrap?
-Simple answer: sustainability. We make ours from two ingredients (beeswax and fabric). They can be washed with gentle soap and COLD water and reused for about 6-12 months (depending on size, usage, and maintenance). When the wraps no longer hold their shape as well, they can be used in a compost bin.
Are these cheaper than single-use alternatives?
-Well, you tell me. A 152 count of Ziploc sandwich baggies costs $3.52. I go through about a box of those every two months, which means that in 6 months, I spend $10.56. That does not include any gallon sized bags, aluminum foil, plastic cling wrap, or other "to-go" containers I might purchase. A large beeswax wrap that can be used to wrap a sandwich will run you around $8.00. Which will last you around 6-12 months. So, you tell me! Sustainability is often "pricier" on the front end, but pays off in the long run. If you're willing to make the investment up front, then YES these are absolutely cheaper.
Can I put these in the freezer/microwave?
-Freezer, yes. Microwave, NO. The heat from your hands is enough to allow the beeswax in the wrap to warm up enough to become pliable and be molded to the desired container. If you place this in the microwave, it will ruin your wrap.
Can I use this with all food items?
-Nope, sorry! Do not use these on things like raw meat. Otherwise, you're good to go!
Here's a really great Pros/Cons list of Beeswax Food Wraps. Stay tuned, we'll be dropping these soon and we can't wait! Have you ever used a Beeswax Food Wrap? What do you think of them?
