With many low cost surgery options, postoperative pain medication for owned animals is not included and in some cases, not even offered. This won't be the case with Accessible Veterinary Care, LLC. All pets deserve pain control, so that's what they'll get.

I'll keep on updating everyone with build-out, projected opening, and prices once I have the information.

Sammy is doing really well! He's started eating better and is considerably more comfortable. He is nervous about my other pets, probably because his previous housemates injured him multiple times, but is starting to do a little bit of venturing out of the bathroom. He is very cuddly and wants to be pet, even likes belly rubs despite his belly still being bruised. I think he can live in a home with friendly animals, but would probably be more comfortable as a solo pet.

7y, neutered male, lynx point siamese, fiv/felv negative, fully vaccinated. If anyone is interested, let me know. He's located in Naples, FL

These are such scary statistics. Heartworms are so very preventable and the cost of prevention is a fraction of the cost of treatment. Make the right choice and keep your pets on heartworm prevention YEAR ROUND!

Humane Society Naples has served as a primary point of transport for animals being relocated in the wake of Hurricane Ian. All animals relocated out if the area were in shelters prior to the storm, these large transports have allowed local shelters to make room for the influx of animals who have been displaced and need help.

Happy Tech Week! This week is a time to show extra love and appreciation to your veterinary technicians. Being a vet tech is a demanding job. It is physically, mentally, and emotionally taxing and these gals and guys are often the unsung heroes of your pets' care. If you have a pet that sees a veterinarian, I encourage you to take some time to say thank you to the technicians through social media, physical cards, or even some sweet or salty snacks! They deserve it!

Gross but also very cool. Use tick prevention!

From a local Vet....
This tick has been hanging around for us to show people for a while. After months in a sealed container with no additional feeding she laid eggs. This gives you an idea of how long a tick can be dormant and how many eggs one female can lay. Remember ticks bloom again in the fall so keep up with prevention.

Some fun changes ahead for me. I'm going to be leaving my current position to do relief work. This allows me to help out many clinics and shelters by supporting their clients and business while they take vacation, medical leave, or just have a change in staffing needs. I haven't posted in here in a long while, but I needed to say something.

Please vaccinate your pets. Parvo is deadly. Distemper is deadly. Lepto is deadly. Feline leukemia is deadly. Rabies is DEADLY. K9 flu can also be deadly.

Texas has been inundated with distemper. Parvo is always rampant this time of year around the country but is so easily prevented. Talk to your vet about what your pet needs and follow their recommendations, please. I hate seeing animals suffering from preventable disease

This is Jose, he is morbidly obese. He came in to the shelter at 25.6 pounds last month and was not using the litter box, likely because he couldn't get into it. Today was his 1 month weigh in and he's 23.9 pounds! He's also peeing and pooping in the box. Yay, we're on our way, even beat the goal for this month! Slow and steady, kitty cat

Dear Owners,

Don't tell me that your pet is limping but doesn't seem to be in pain. There are 2 reasons that animals (including humans) limp: pain, or one leg being shorter than the other. Unless your dog lost an inch in one leg spontaneously, limping means pain. See your vet.

My grandma and I were talking about attachments we make to animals and this pup came to mind. I knew Turtle for 3 days. I met him on day 1, did surgery on day 2, gave a blood transfusion and ultimately euthanized him on day 3. It hurt. It hurt so much that I'm crying now thinking about it.

He was a sweet boy. He spent his last night in my bed because I couldn't leave him at work in case he declined rapidly overnight and suffered. My coworkers and I put so much love and effort into trying to help him and we just couldn't fix everything that was wrong. I remember my tech sitting on the floor crying with Turtle while I drew up his final injections, also crying.

I have a bad habit of getting attached to animals that are critical. I spend so much time with them and thinking about them and I believe it makes me a better doctor for them, but it also destroys me if I can't save them.

You don't have to own them or have known them for any significant length of time for them to steal a piece of your heart.
