what makes you love Toy Poodle
One of my favorite shows is Lucky Dog.
He takes dogs that are abandoned, abused, and finds them a home, a family that will take them in and love them and train them.
My favorite episode is one where he rescues a dog that the owners gave him up to a shelter because the owners of the dog says "He just won't listen".
Well can you guess why?
The poor thing was deaf. Of course he couldn't listen.
Dogs will pretty much always listen to sound and respond in some way.
But obviously not if they can't hear.
So instead of auditory he taught the dog to be trained by sight, using hand signals. What a loving gesture, and he found a family and taught them how to show the dog how to respond using visual cues instead.
Many times when there are problems like this it's not always obvious but there is an underlying cause.
Don't give up on up on your pet, figure out what's wrong and love them no matter what!

Von Willebrand’s Disease
Von Willebrand’s Disease (VWD) is a genetic blood disorder often seen in Toy Poodles. The condition causes a deficiency in a protein called the von Willebrand factor, which is necessary for platelets to stick together and form a clot. In dogs that are deficient in this protein, the blood may have difficulty clotting, which can lead to bleeding from the nose, v***a, bladder, or gums. Additionally, dogs with this condition may bleed for a long time after trauma or surgery.
If there is concern about VWD, a screening test may be performed. This test measures how long it takes for a small cut in the mouth to stop bleeding. If the time is longer than usual, additional testing is needed to confirm VWD.
Because some dogs with VWD do not have notably prolonged bleeding until later in adulthood, blood levels of von Willebrand factor can be measured to help with diagnosis. Most veterinarians recommend testing for VWD prior to any planned surgery, including spays, neuters, and dewclaw removals.
Tracheal Collapse
Tracheal collapse occurs when the trachea (commonly called the windpipe) flattens. This happens due to weak cartilage rings or the sagging of a membrane along the trachea. Symptoms include a dry cough, which can worsen when your Toy Poodle eats or when she’s excited. Most cases are treated using medications, but in severe cases where breathing is impeded, surgery may be necessary.
Toy poodles are likely genetically predisposed to tracheal collapse. To prevent and manage this condition, it’s important to keep your dog at a healthy weight. When on walks, use a harness instead of a collar, as pressure on the trachea can cause further damage.
Dental Disease
Dental disease is one of the most common conditions seen in dogs as they age, especially in small breeds like the Toy Poodle. Dental disease occurs when bacterial tartar and plaque build up, leading to inflammation of the tissues around the teeth—and eventually to tooth and bone decay.
