Our calf took part of a bottle this morning. Success!! It can sometimes be hard getting one to transition from a real ni**le to artificial. I use a smaller ni**le now to start them. And we have to wean him from his mama since she can accidentally hurt him more. He is already eating hay and grain so he will be ok. Keeping him very confined right now. Details will come as we know them.

Another thing that we did today was help Animal Control pick up this poor, neglected donkey who has foundered horribly. No one is claiming her so after the livestock stray hold is off, she will be coming to the farm. AC will get a farrier to work on her feet in the meantime. This is so painful to these equine when this happens. It’s late so google founder in equines if you need more info. We have taken MANY horses and donkeys who have had this condition. Just remember that some donkeys still need their hooves trimmed, at least occasionally, and a lot of them cannot process sugars. One of many reasons this can happen. We will get her as comfortable as possible for her remaining years.

What a day. Never a dull moment on the farm. This was one of our rescue cow’s babies who came up with a broken leg today. We think Mama may have stepped on him. Dr. Tracy crated and sent it to Dr. Lammers. Waiting to see if and when he can do surgery. It’s much harder on livestock to keep it clean and free of infection but also to keep them off of it. We will update when we know more. BTW, it’s a highland baby 💕

Sweet little Bronco was dreaming about his title of People’s Choice for handsome hunts of Hood County on February 13th. We’re hoping to get a new chart Thursday to see who’s in the lead!

P***y is catching some well deserved rays right now! We are barely above freezing with some nice sunshine. Vitamin D is good for all of our souls 💕🐾💕

P***y had her last splint removed today and so far, so good! The X-ray shows it to be more stable so we are hoping to take the bandage off next week.

D&B Luna and old Riley are sharing an open crate today. Good idea! BTW, we call these crates “jail cells”. If you have one that can get out of a crate, these could be your answer! We use this for separation while feeding.
