Swipe to see Chaco’s version of begging for treats — years ago, I taught him to bow, so now whenever someone has a treat (or he thinks someone has a treat) he starts bowing until they give it to him 🤦🏻‍♀️ it’s pretty cute!
jonesey09 and I started going through stuff to take to the Kirkwood tack swap on the 25th! If you live in Iowa (or a neighboring state) you should come to the tack swap, there’s always lots of good stuff there 😙

Chaco likes to turn into a dressage pony in the snow ❄️

We got a light dusting of snow today — it was a beautiful winter day, hardly any wind, a little snow, and around 26°F ❄️ we also got the tractor back from being repaired today, so we’ll be able to put round bales out again 🎉

How much hay does your horse get?
Ours have access to hay 24/7 — there are so many benefits to 24/7 access to forage! 🫶🏼

My perfect perfect boys 🥰

Mesa tried on his winter blanket for the first time today! With Chaco there for moral support and a couple tasty treats, he acted like it was no big deal at all — he’s such a good little baby 🫶🏼 he PROBABLY won’t need it, since he’s got a nice thick winter coat, but I didn’t want to not have a blanket for him if Iowa decided to drop to -45°F (-43°C) or some nonsense again this year lol
Chaco also got some cookies (since he was sooo helpful) and I gave both of them a good grooming and put a fresh on Chaco. Mesa has such a nice mane and tail at just 9 months old!! 😍

I wish we’d get a little more snow — snow rides are one of my most favorite things in the whole wide world, but the inch or two we have on the ground right now is just enough to be a little slippery but not enough to give the frozen ground any cushioning 😡

Hot new album dropping soon, what should their band name be 😂
Ft .vb on Maggie!

Had SUCH a good session with Mesa today! He’s been struggling a bit recently with turning right nicely while I’m leading him from the “proper” aka left side, so today I switched things up and spent some time working with him from the right side for a while and asking him to soften and bend, and it worked wonders! By the end of our groundwork sesh he was turning nicely both directions with me leading him from both sides. We did lots of weaving through the trees in the pasture, stepping over logs, trotting in hand, and practicing our “woah” and he was lovely 💖

LOOK AT HIMMMM!!! My gorgeous baby boy 🥹

I did a little groundwork with Mesa today (he did well despite the crazy wind) and persuaded to take a few photos since I have hardly any pics of me with Mesa 😅 with the wind, it was a “feels like” temp of 3°F/-16°C, but we powered through!
sometimes I feel really behind with his groundwork since I was gone for work almost all of October & half of November, and then was sick for so much of December 🙃🙃 but I have to remind myself that we have plenty of time, and he’s such a smart and sane baby that he’s still doing fantastic 🫶🏼

Mesa is such a handsome little dude 🥰

Did chores with .vb today — took extra long because the p**p in the paddocks was frozen to the ground, and the damn tractor decided to break so we can’t put out round bales and have to put out hay bags instead 😂 it’s always something, right?
After chores were done, I spent some time just sitting by the hay ring in the pasture in the dark, listening to the horses munching on their hay. With the snow on the ground and the horses’ frosty breath, it was very peaceful 💙

Tomorrow Ana & I are gonna ride in the snow, and I’m going to do some work with Mesa!

Not only are they pretty to look at, but they’re also super comfy — every pair of heeled shoes I’ve ever worn has made my feet hurt, but not these! They have nice arch support and the soles are super cushy and comfortable. I can’t wait to wear them to the new year’s party I’m going to!

Just two boys who are ABSOLUTELY FILTHY right now… it’s disgusting and foggy and wet out here right now and they sure took advantage of the mud this week 🙃 but the farrier came out today so at least they’ve got nice fresh pedicures 💅🏼

It was chilly out today but the lack of wind was fantastic, so I got some stuff done! In addition to chores, I also repaired the hay net for the round bale (the piggy ponies put 4 good sized holes in it 🙄) and used the tractor to scrape the muck off our grids — update vid on those coming soon!!

Would you rather do barn chores (mucking, feeding, etc) in the summer or winter? 🤔
