Founded by Dr Jill Robinson MBE in 1998, Animals Asia Foundation is devoted to the welfare of wild and urban animals in Asia. We also work towards the conservation of endangered species. We have three flagship programmes: End Bear Farming, Cat and Dog Welfare and Action against Cruelty. Under these, we have many campaigns, including the Moon Bear Rescue aimed at bringing the barbaric practice of bear farming and the bile trade to an end. We have signed agreements with both the Chinese and Vietnamese governments to rescue 700 bears from the torture of bile farms, and bring them to our sanctuaries to live out their lives in peace and safety. At present, we have around 250 rescued bears at our sanctuaries in China and Vietnam and over the years, we’ve rescued a total of 350 bears. In China, we’re working with conservation leaders in Beijing as well as forestry leaders in individual provinces to close down farms and make whole provinces bear-farm free. So far, we’ve closed down 43 Chinese farms and seen 20 of mainland China’s 31 provinces become proudly bear farm-free. We also work to reduce the demand for bile in Asia by promoting affordable, effective and cruelty-free alternatives. https://www.animalsasia.org/uk/our-work/end-bear-bile-farming/

Under Cat and Dog Welfare, our campaigns include Friends or Food (to end cat and dog eating in Asia) and Animal Therapy (our pioneering Dr Dog and Professor Paws programmes). More than 250 registered therapy dogs and their guardians volunteer in 10 Asian cities, spreading their special brand of comfort and love to those in need in hospitals, orphanages, schools and centres for the disabled. We feel these dogs are the perfect ambassadors for their species (as well as for cats) and hope that eventually people will grow to love all animals through their love of these companion animals. https://www.animalsasia.org/uk/our-work/cat-and-dog-welfare/

Under our multi-species programme, Action against Cruelty, our campaigns include Captive Bear Care; Chinese Zoos and Safari Parks; and Wildlife Consumption. We lobby government departments at all levels for long-term comprehensive changes to legislation on China animal-protection laws as well as to bring about positive changes today. In October 2010, shortly after we intensified our almost 20-year campaign to end cruel performances in zoos and safari parks in China, the ministry responsible for zoos issued a directive country-wide ordering the end of animal performances and improvements to the living conditions of animals in zoos on a number of levels. Under Animal Welfare Action, we harness the voices of supporters around the globe to lobby for specific actions by governments or organisations. We raise awareness of cruel practices and mistreatment of animals used in public entertainment and traditional medicine. We expose the brutality of live-animal markets and co-ordinate relief for animals in emergency situations. https://www.animalsasia.org/uk/our-work/zoos-and-safari-parks/

Animals Asia Foundation has charitable status in Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Luxembourg and the UK, and 501(c)(s) status in the USA. Donations are tax-deductible in these countries in accordance with local regulations. To be successful we need the help of people like you to volunteer your time to help us spread the word about the plight of the bears and to raise the precious funds necessary for us to continue this vital work. https://www.animalsasia.org/uk/get-involved/spread-the-word.html

Bonnie and Clyde have spent their first night at our Tam Dao bear sanctuary after an epic four-day journey from the bile farm we rescued them from.

They're both settling in quite well but are understandably still a little nervous and probably unsure as to what's going on, so our team tries to limit the amount of noise and action in the quarantine area in the first few days.

However, when Amy went in to check on them this morning she caught these lovely pictures of Clyde as he was devouring his first ever coconut!

We'll bring you pictures and clips of our two gorgeous new arrivals as soon as we can.

Had such a brilliant day with the Animals Asia stall at Ventnor Day here on the Isle of Wight yesterday! The weather was challenging, rain and strong winds in the morning turning to scorching sun and strong winds in the afternoon! I spent a lot of time grabbing at things on the table to stop them blowing away, or picking stuff up when the wind beat me! 😄 Sadly I couldn't put out all the goodies I had, including some gorgeous handmade dog bandanas that had been so kindly donated, as it was just too windy. But I had a wonderful time and due to the incredible compassion and generosity of so many wonderful folk, managed to raise £192. ❤️🐻
It was such a treat to speak to people about the amazing work of Animals Asia & Jill Robinson: to the Moon and Back and exciting to share the news about the new Bach Ma sanctuary that's being built in Vietnam. The response was always so positive and supportive and I was really touched that 3 different people came over to see me to tell me that chatting to me about Animals Asia, when I had the stall at last years Ventnor Day, had a real impact on them and that they were now active signed up supporters of the charity. That meant so much to me! 🐾 It was also very interesting how many people told me that they had become aware of Animals Asia and their work from seeing their advert on TV, I'd guess that about 85% of the people I spoke to told me that. It's fantastic that the advert has reached out to so many people and helped raise awareness.

A huge thank you to the extremely hardworking organisers of Ventnor Day and all the lovely folk I met for making it such a special day. ❤️🐾

❣ Great news! ❣

Our beautiful girl Dawn, who so many of you have fallen in love with and who's journey you've followed so closely, is moving to her forever home at our Vietnam sanctuary!

Animals Asia rescued Dawn with four other bears earlier this year from a bile farm where they'd lived in dark cages for 20 years. Although they were all understandably traumatised, Dawn was completely shut down. Sarah said she was 'one of the most broken bears' she'd ever seen.

Over the last few months our expert bear care and vet teams have worked tirelessly with Dawn in our quarantine area to build her up both physically and psychologically.

Very slowly Dawn has started to open up. Her fur is growing back, her eyes are brighter and curious, and she's taking more interest in her toys and food.

She's finally ready to move to her own den!

Join Ngoc and the team next Monday 3 July at 10am BST* as she follows Dawn, Midnight and Twilight to their forever homes.

The recording will be available afterwards to watch on-demand.

🐻 Please note 🐻 we don't know exactly how the move will go, Dawn is still very nervous and we're not sure how she will react to the move. We anticipate it will take around an hour and we might have to stop the stream if Dawn becomes upset, to give her the chance to acclimatise. We'll of course keep you as updated as much as we can, when we can.

Thank you to every one of you who has sent love and support to Dawn - our brave, beautiful girl is nearly there! 🐻

Phew... spent most of yesterday getting everything sorted and I think I'm finally organised! 🐻 Always love having a stall at Ventnor Day, it's lots of fun and it's wonderful to be able to get out there to chat with folk to share all the incredible work that Animals Asia do.

Please do stop by and say hi if you're there! 😊🐾
