We just about experienced 3 seasons of weather today for Tuesday Training- from 70’s to 90’s; cloudy, sunny, rainy, breezy, no wind—— good friends and wonderful dogs!!

Well, after Monte won the Midwest Spaniel Association open stakes field trial in 🇨🇦 this past Sunday with Jason, today in 🇨🇦, Monte’s mom, Ginger (at the tender age of 9 years young) said, “hold my Molson, eh?”, and won today’s Prairie Spaniel Club open stakes!

Even though the “mainstays” of Lighthouse Kennels were north of the border field trialing, some of the Tuesday Training Group made sure to take advantage of the beautiful weather for training, with Zara taking the lead.

Tuesday Training Group having a good day! We started early to work before the heat and humidity took over, and always made sure the dogs cooled properly. A plus today, PUPPIES!

High level dog work yesterday during training here at LHK. Monte is visualizing "being the bird". After a while the puppies thought he had enough mental reps at that so brought him some caffeine. A good example of the rookies supporting the vets as we prepare for upcoming trials.

Lots of fun today at the NorthEast Wisconsin first possibly annual Water Test for Springers and Cockers! We had great cooking by Javin, great training but Team LHK, great pictures by Rosemary LoGiudice and Ana Labrenz , and Zara finished Twig's Field Championship. Thank you to everyone who helped, it was a perfect event for a warm day.

Fun day !!!! It was great to see Mr. Jerry Cacchio. Dean and Jeff ! Thank you Rosemary LoGiudice for the great photos ... We had fun playing with puppies and getting little Ames ready for his flight home next week. It's starting to get warm out there !!

Professional spaniel hunting dog trianer… not all that glamorous…. But it has its percs. Pheasant pen ready … Ginger ready !! Muddy American cocker are ready !! And of course an awesome little springer puppy !! Who doesn’t LOVE a cute springer puppy !!!

After a very nice spring trial season and his first litter of puppies on the ground… …. Gus got a spa treatment and is all set to vacation with his dad Curt !!

Fun way to finish our Cocker trial season up at the MN Cocker trial. Great birds and nice cover with good weather. It was a super weekend!
On Saturday in the Open I got 3rd place with Dixie. John got 2nd place with Mya.
On Sunday I got 3rd place with Gus. John and Mya got 2nd again. I won with Twig, making her just a water test short of her FC! Very happy for Zara and Twig, they rock!!

Great and surprisingly dry Friday and Saturday at the Cocker Enthusiasts trial. The first day in the Open John and Finley got Guns and 4th, I got 3rd with Dixie, John got 2nd with Mya, and I won with almost 9 years old Ginger. She came off the couch to run once last weekend and once this weekend and came out with a Win and a 4th, old girl still has it and will rest until New Jersey now!
On Saturday Zara and American Cocker Carl got 3rd in the puppy stake. Huckleberry turned a very strong 3rd series into a 2nd place and his kennel mate Gus got the win. Way to go good boys.

A fun time last weekend at the Central Wisconsin Cocker trial. Not much cover but good Chukars made it enjoyable. On Saturday old girl Ginger came off the couch to get a National ticket in her first attempt. On Sunday Gus got another 2nd place this Spring. In the Amateur Rosemary and Vito got Vito's first ribbon in his all-age attempt! And Keith and Monte got another win, good boys!

A fun Fox Valley weekend! Thank you to the club and to Jordan for putting Kaye and I up in style!
Saturday I won the puppy stake with Lola. In the Amateur Tim and Sandy got 2nd. In the Open Twig got 4th. Kaye and Wynnie got 3rd. Berry for the guns and the win!
Sunday in the puppy Vicky and Henry got 3rd, Lola got 2nd, and Rosemary finished Vito's puppy career with a win! In Amateur Keith and Monte got 2nd, Chuck and Linus got guns and won. Open Berry got 3rd and Twig won!
Plus the club finished with placements right before the rain started so good all the way around!

Fun times at the Central WI Springer trial the last couple of days. The cover at Oasis Game Farm was pretty light and open but the Chukars made it work. In the puppy I got 3rd with Hoover and won with Shaney. Both did well in the downwind course. Then Trey won the Open for his 2nd consecutive win and his FC, short of his water. Today in the Amateur Rick and Missy won so Whoo Hoo to all!!

Lots of fun in Ohio at the Stillwater trial. It's always good to see the Ohio gang each Spring. On Saturday it got real windy and the Cockers got blown around a bit. But Mr. Trey had a very nice performance in the Springer Open and finished with the win after the long and tiring day. On Sunday the Cockers got back on track and had some just wonderful performances. Twig broke through with her first Open ribbon with 4th place. Ms Consistent Dixie nailed down 3rd place. Gus got 2nd to finish the land work of his Field Championship, we'll try and find water somewhere this Spring. And Berry got his first ribbon and it was Blue, snatching the win away from Gus! Gus and Berry are kennel mates at home and it was so much fun for me watching the two of them put on the performances they did.
Also, a thank you to Bill and Roxanne for all their dog shuttling help, they really saved me on Sunday.
And a special good luck to the folks of that area recovering from the tornado damage. I drove through some really bad stuff on the way home, they will be dealing with that mess for while.

I hear from folks about wild and crazy field trial dogs. I've heard people suggest field trial dogs should be avoided for family pets and hunting dogs. I think folks who imply such things are simply jealous of quality dogs and knowledgeable trainers.
These thoughts occurred to me tonight as I watch Letterkenny with FC Ginger and FC AFC Bailey. This will be the beginning of posts with our crazy dogs, please share!

A wonderful weekend down in Bell Buckle TN. Kaye and I spent the week in AL with the gracious Sims family doing some dog training and then headed to TN. The trial at the Wiley estate was beautiful and the weather could not have been better. On Saturday I got Open 2nd with Gus. Davis won the Amateur for Dixie's AFC. And friend Jon continued his fantastic Spring with Chief winning the Open. On Sunday I was pleased to complete the trial with all 5 of the dogs I ran and got 2nd place with Dixie. A fun weekend and a great start to my trial year!!

Some of last year's business I never got around to. I suppose it would be good to do so before this year's trials start for me!
2023 was another great year for the Cockers for LHK. For the 3rd consecutive year I was the top Cocker handler in the country. Close to home I won the Central High Point trophy for 4th consecutive year, this time featuring the delightful Dixie Bruorton.
A huge thank you to all my amazing friends, clients, and training partners. And special shouts out to Zara and Jordan for all of their work and advice and to the best wife in the world in Kaye. Without her I wouldn't be me!
Together WE have all made team LHK a fun, successful, and determined group of dogs and people and it is my honor to have you all in my life. THANK YOU!!
Now we can kick off 2024 with our sights set on the future. Stay tuned, ribbon pics to follow!!!!
