Lap of Love is a network of veterinarians around the country whose goal is to empower every owner to care for their geriatric pets. Our philosophy centers around the human-animal bond and the need for that bond to be as undisturbed as possible during this most difficult time. The desire to bring this important service to families across the United States is slowly being realized as additional vete

rinarians begin working under the same philosophy. Lap of Love is honored to have some of the most compassionate and empathetic vets working with us. Any veterinarian that chooses to dedicate his or her life to the practice of veterinary hospice and euthanasia is incredibly special. This may not be an easy role to play in our society, but we all respond the same way when asked why we do this:

Because it is an honor. Not only are we continually discussing new medical protocols for achieving the best possible outcomes (whatever that may be) for our patients, but we are also the industry leaders in this new and involving field of veterinary medicine. Collectively, Lap of Love veterinarians have lectured at more veterinary colleges and more national (and international) conferences than any other group on animal hospice, geriatric care, euthanasia, and other end of life topics. We have authored countless professional, peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and even our own academic textbook on Treatment and Care of the Geriatric Veterinary Patient. We are honored to teach professional and pre-professional veterinarians the skills, techniques, and medical approaches our experience has brought us. And most importantly, we bring that same skill into your home, to your family, and to your pet. We are animals lovers too, we have dedicated our lives to helping the creatures we share this planet with. And yes, we know what it feels like to lose a family member… grief is grief, no matter what species it is!

It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that I am posting this tonight. This Saturday (May 14) will be my final day providing in home end of life care with Lap of Love. I have decided to return to general practice and will be moving to southern California to join a wonderful practice (Cardiff Animal Hospital).
It has been a honor to help so many families in the Portland and Salem areas over the last 5 1/2 years. Each of you has touched my heart in some way, as I hope I have yours. Please know that every one of your pets that I've helped will never be forgotten - playing a small role in their life story was my privilege.

With love and compassion,
Dr. Lori
