EVENT: Bark in the Park

DATE: September 8, 2018

TIME: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

LOCATION: Ironwoods Amphitheater in Ironwoods Park

14701 Mission Rd., Leawood, KS 66224

ENTRY FEE: $10 per carload

Bark in the Park Will Not be Ccancelled but Will Move Inside if it Rains Saturday

The Leawood Parks and Recreation Department, Leawood Stage Company with the Leawood Animal Control Officers, present Bark in the Park “rain or Shine” for a day of fun, activities and education for dogs and their companions. Join us September 8 at Ironwoods Park, 147th and Mission Road.

The event will begin at 10:00 am and conclude with a Dog n’ Jog at 1:30 pm through Ironwoods Park. Activities will include pet adoptions and demonstrations like agility, obedience, and Frisbee dogs.

Vendor tables, contests, and BARK! the Musical will be moved into the Lodge. Dogs will be allowed inside the Lodge. The only portion of the event that will not be held will be demonstrations such as Agility and Obedience Training.

Your dog can compete for prizes in contests such as: best kisser, best singer, best dancer best trick, best wag, best dressed, doggie dash, and dog/owner look alike competition.

The annual favorite “Pooch Paint” will be part of the event activities. Dogs will be assisted in creating artworks with their paws. Up to four of their favorite colors can be selected. All supplies are provided. Paints are non-toxic and washable. Dog owners will take home their dog’s beautiful canvas painting, suitable for framing.

The contained painting area will be located near the amphitheater. Following the painting experience, your dog’s paws will be cleaned up at the onsite cleaning station.

Educational events and story time will take place at the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse and the Prairie Oak Nature Center.

The Bark in the Park event will include a performance of BARK! The Musical presented by the Leawood Stage Company at 11:00 am in the Ironwoods Amphitheater or Lodge in case of rain. This musical follows six canine characters for a day at Doggie Daycare. From the little puppy who yearns to bark like a real dog, to the opera-singing poodle and the street mutt who raps - this musical has huge heart. Presented from a dog’s point of view, the show depicts the joy in man’s best friend.

Men, women and children of all ages will find an emotional connection with BARK! Howlingly funny and sometimes poignant, BARK! is the new must see American musical. Don’t miss getting selfies with the actors.
