Drop & Stay 🐾 Baloo, Nala & Bowie
During our home consultation today we taught Inigo the #airedale to stay on his bed. This is a very useful behaviour for many reasons including:
🐕 somewhere for him to settle when not confined to his pen or crate
🐕 teaching him to lay on his bed as an alternative behaviour to jumping up on the sofa or countertop surfing while cooking dinner.

It will help if your puppy already knows how to drop and stay as a foundation for this behaviour which is taught in puppy class.
1. We started teaching the cue ‘go to bed’ and duration of laying down on the bed before given release cue ‘free’
2. In this video you can see we’re working on distance from him while he stays on his bed as well as duration.
3. Next step will be to add distractions such as moving around the room, sitting down and standing up, making food in the kitchen etc.

✅ reward on the same side every time to reduce zig zagging
✅ encourage eye contact and focus using you voice and reinforce it!

Indy nailed her first loose leash walking session! 👏🏻
At 4.5 months old this gorgeous cocker spaniel puppy is full of beans and her owners were really struggling with her pulling on leash and lack of focus.
This was achieved in under 30 minutes 🐾 Of course it will require consistent training to develop and maintain reliable behaviour, but they’re off to a great start!!
✅ gradually add distractions (practice at home first!)
✅ when the puppy pulls on the leash, take a step back so they are not successful
✅ reinforce the behaviour we want
✅ vary rewards according to difficulty
