I managed to sit down and do a little bit of sewing yesterday.. and experimented with a type of appliqué.. what do we think? I was originally thinking of cushions, wall hangings or tote bags
Picture 2 is the photo I was basing it off, just a gorgeous shot found on Pinterest ☺️

I've been a busy little bee (when my tiny dictators have allowed it) and I have some things all made up, on the website and looking for new homes!
I have reinvented my Celtic neckrope design, making them a one size fits all with a sliding braid handhold... With 8 currently available.
I have also created a new rope halter, but a knotless version. My thinking that for those that like rope halters but don't like the knots that sit on the facial nerve bundles. I have one of these made up and am looking for someone (in NZ, North Island preferably) who is interested in the concept and wants to test drive it for me. All I require in return is a review of it and it's all yours. If you are interested please send me an email on [email protected]
I'm slowly working my way through my remaining paracord stash to create these (and some other things coming!) before I start to bringing in more paracord again. So while custom orders aren't available now, they will be sometime in the future 🙂

Its been quite some time since I posted here - over a year in fact! 😅 And I realise I never shared why before disappearing.
I took time off to welcome our second little girl who came in the first week of January. I've been wanting to get back into things for a while but juggling two littles - especially when the smallest one is a very clingy barnacle - has made it a little tricky. I have limited windows during the week when hubs is home and can occupy tiny humans so I can do things. As a result any orders I take on will (much like when my first girl was little) will be done as quickly as I can but I cannot guarantee a fast turnaround or an exact completion time.
I am currently going through my products list, sorting out what I want to keep and what I want to retire, and some new things that are coming! I am also hoping to have a range of pre-made things listed for sale on the website soon.
I also want to do some bodywork sessions, but that will definitely be on the limited side as I can't have poor Nana come out with us that often to childmind - she still works too 😂
So I'm sorry for ghosting everyone but it was for good reason ❤️
Photo taken at Hoiho Hauora Hapori, where I take the girls (and myself) for a horse fix fortnightly. Ranger is an absolute sweetheart (and tiny) and I trust him implicitly which is why I was willing to do a micro session while wearing a sleeping baby.

New embroidery pieces on my website! Quite stoked with how my experimental 3D forelock turned out ❤️🐴
02/04/2023
Two new products loaded to the website! 🥳
I've been working on these for quite some time, made up a prototype of the bridle and had it trialled a bunch of times to get a review of it with a raving success!
The bitless converter I used to do years ago but I have brought it back now new and improved - with no knots to press on the face and D rings for attachment to the bridle.
The bridle is my own brainchild, a universal bridle that can be used either bitted or bitless with my bitless converter. I'm pretty stoked with this one and can't wait to get some photos of it in action!
Below is what Chelsea told me after her and her kids trialled it a few times, thank you so much for your help Chelsea! ❤️
"I'm super impressed by bridle. First time I put it on she went to shake her head then stopped and hasn't shaken it again. Great responsiveness when ridden. She did try pulling reins from my hand which is her other trick but couldn't. It's so lightweight and the design really surprised me. It fits her beautifully and doesn't slip around on her face like others. I don't normally like cross under but no problem with it getting stuck and I also really like how your rein clips keep the reins hanging down, meaning when I do pick up my reins she notices.
The level and lightness of communication I felt with her last night was amazing. I love it's simplicity and she has stopped shaking her head and my kids can stop her from dragging them back to tie up!"

While working on new horsehair ideas I ended up straying a little bit into the world of embroidery and I am HOOKED! The main drawback to being creative is the zillions of ideas and the lack of attention span to stick to one project until completion 😅
These two (plus a ton of other ideas I have for when I have spare time.. what's that?) will be loaded onto my website for purchase this Friday afternoon (when the toddler has a playdate with Nana)

I've been trying to work out why all the photos I take of products lately have the colours slightly off.. turns out I had a filter selected on my phone's camera and had not been aware of it 🤦♀️ Here is a close-up shot of my most recently completed order - a bitless bridle in mermaid with black accents. If you look really closely at the rope you can see the streaks of pale pink, green and purple in the mermaid. So pretty!🧜♀️
Now I will have to find the time to rephotograph a bunch of new horsehair products so I can add them to the website 😂
22/02/2023
What's your pick? 🤔🐎
I am slowly making progress working through a bunch of new horsehair keepsake ideas (and a new one got added to my website tonight!) But I just need a little input on this one...
I can't decide between the simple line keepsakes as painted or embroidered.. or just have both options! Also as a second question (for the embroidery option) does the finishing look of the hoop look nicer or would a framed look like the painted ones be preferred?
ETA the hoop pictured is not totally complete, the excess fabric is to be trimmed and a backing put on the hoop ☺️

It took me a while but I finally attached the horsehair to my attempt at wire art!
I really took for granted before how easy it was to trial new ideas without a tiny human hanging off of me. Now it takes me 147292742 times as long! 😂
I currently have SO many ideas that I want to work through and am just having to slowly do them during nap time or when Terra has her weekly playdate with Nana.
I am however looking for about 5 people who would be happy to donate some of their horses hair and maybe a photo (depending on the idea I want to try) so that I can trial these things and not end up with a zillion things myself made from random horse hair 😂 please comment below if you would be happy to do this (please note I have no clue how long it will take me to complete them and it'll have to be first in first served as last time I asked this I was absolutely flooded with people offering 😅)
**Thank you all for your offers of hair, I am now sorted! 🥰🥰**

It feels good to work with some horses again! This is what I call the Zen Zone - when I'm working with one horse and others will mosey on over and hang out close to us and have their own releases at the same time. It's like two for the price of one in relaxation 💁♀️
04/01/2023
Playing around with wire art.. and hopefully I will be successful at weaving horsehair in there too! 🐎
19/12/2022
Current work in progress 🐎
As I paint miniatures I have a fair few small paintbrushes but nothing quite small enough to do the small creases around the eyes... So today's brainwave was to use a single strand of hair from the tail sample as a teeny tiny paintbrush 😂
15/12/2022
Absolutely typical that as I start to get busier working on orders and even have a bodywork session booked in for the weekend we all get covid 🙄
So if anyone needs me for the next week I'll just be on the couch with Terra watching the ponies on TV 🐎
05/12/2022
Bodywork is back baby!
I've been having the itch lately to put hands on some horses so I think it is time - so for Whangarei and surrounds I will be available Wednesdays, Thursdays or weekends if required 🐎
I went to write a blog post about it on my
website and realised I hadn't done a post there since going on maternity leave - whoops 😅
The algorithms on social media are a bit hit and miss for someone like me who doesn't post twice a day everyday so I'm trying to work out how to have people sign up to receive email notifications when I post on my website blog with news and special offers so hopefully I can get that sorted soon! 🤞
Photo of myself and the little love when we went to watch the horses at Barge Park a few weeks back ❤️

Hi everyone! Turns out I am pretty terrible at posting regularly, mostly because I've been pretty quiet work wise but let's break the streak with some pics of today's completed celtic dragon bridle in unicorn pink 🦄💗
This is a piece I don't get to make very often and this is also the first time it's been ordered in pink so I'm thrilled! These are a collaboration between myself and Punk Ponies Tack Shop and are ordered through them, if it is something you like the look of 😉

Because we are tiny home living while our house is built all my paracord, ropes and other work related paraphernalia currently live in storage bins under the bed. Terra now climbs in the bin and methodically chucks it all out while I make things, in between tugging on everything as I make it and climbing all over me 😂
I also want to add I now have my black and mermaid ropes back in stock for those who have been waiting so patiently - international shipping is a bit slower now 😅🖤🧜♀️
02/04/2022
This here is a just finished bitless bridle made out of the last of the mermaid rope I have.. and unfortunately my supplier is currently out of stock 😅
I am also out of black at the moment but should have that remedied in the next week or so!
22/03/2022
Some recently completed rope orders.. the pink is so vibrant and I love it! 😍
21/03/2022
How old were you when you first sat on a horse?
First pony ride 💙 and her baby Terra on Delphi 🦄
Saddle pad, bonnet, and stirrups from www.punkponies.com
07/03/2022
This is why orders take a bit longer to complete these days 😅
Rope and paracord tack I can make with Terra around but paintings and keepsakes I need to work on at my parents so she can have some time with her grandparents and I can have both hands to paint. I haven't yet tried any ribbon work although I do have one in the works so we will see how that works out!
26/01/2022
Working hard with my little assistant. Wonder how long it will be until I can have her braid paracord for me instead of just knot all the rope up 😂
11/01/2022
Wishing everyone a super late happy holidays! After a lot of people have gone back to work.. nice job Elan 😅
It's been a few months since I last posted 🤦♀️ even though I've been mainly Mama-ing I've done a few things work related so here they are!
Just a reminder that while I am still taking orders for most things, I am only working part time - while my little one naps. You can find my complete range including prices and ordering on my website www.emfequinenz.com ❤️
21/11/2021
While the little love sleeps I get some work done! 😴❤️
I have recently decided to change my name options for portraits and keepsakes to be done freestyle by hand instead of printed - we are currently tiny home living and my computer is way to hard to access easily, plus freehand is so much more fun!
01/11/2021
I am not quite as onto it anymore for posting completed creations as I go.. so here is the last couple orders in one post!
First is the portrait I talked about a few posts ago but it was a gift so I couldn't share.. it has now been gifted so here we go! I was given artistic freedom for this so I included a flourishy style name by hand (instead of printed) as well as a mostly hair covered face as humans are not my best painting subjects 😅
Second is a spiderman colour themed halter for a little boys birthday present ❤️ (how did I never make that connection of colours before 😅)
And lastly are a range of Celtic neckropes! These have been really popular lately so I have more in the works now 😊
17/10/2021
Celtic knots! Which colour combination do you like best? (maroon and white is my fav ❤️)
Terra fell asleep on her Daddy today so I supervised the unusual nap position and got cracking on some Celtic neckropes at the same time 😂
04/10/2021
I have a photo of a newly finished horse hair portrait that I really want to share with you but it's a gift so I can't just yet! Instead here is a picture of a slightly grumpy baby blowing bubbles and holding her little pony Clip Clop 🐴❤️
30/09/2021
Bitless bridle set for Shannon! 🏇
I actually only do two paracord colours for bridle accents and browbands but baby brain made me forget to mention this to Shannon when we talked colours and she chose these 3 so I figured I would make it work 😅
21/09/2021
Taking completed product photos with my supervisor 👼
This is my most recent piece completed for Lily Marcroft , a side pull rope halter bridle - great for endurance or trekking.. or anyone really who wants to have a rope halter and a side pull bitless bridle in one 😊
(just to note, the plastic bag is actually not as close to the baby as it appears, the angle of the photo has made it look so but in actual fact she couldn't reach it. I was also right there the whole time 😊)
10/09/2021
Just a girl and her pony 🐴❤️
I keep telling hubby horses are either in your blood or they aren't and seeing as this is the only toy she likes playing with we may have a horse girl on our hands later on 😉
07/09/2021
Great news everyone.. I can paint while wearing the baby! 🤪
Because of this I am happy to say that I am opening up orders again, but please note I will not be able to provide a set ETA.. things will be completed on a 'when I'm able to' basis still 😅
The second image is my most recently finished piece for Carissa, and she opted for the horsehair to be in a heart shaped loop ❤️ This turned out so well that it will now also be an option for keepsakes.

Welcome to EMF Equine NZ!
My name is Elan Fahy and I am Masterson Method Certified Practitioner (MMCP) with a side passion for creating unique horsehair keepsakes, beautiful competition ribbon pieces and colourful, handcrafted equestrian tack.
I live in Maunu, Whangarei and while most of my work is made to order, I am frequently hit with the creative bug so I often have premade pieces for sale too. My goal has been to create a range of one of a kind pieces that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else, so a lot of my products are my own designs - or I have added my own special twist onto existing products!
You can browse my range and shop online here or find out more about equine bodywork and the Masterson Method here. If you have any questions or would like to arrange a bodywork session for your horse (or horses) please email me on [email protected]
A little bit about me..
My horse obsession started when I was about 2 years old, but my bodywork journey started in 2014 after purchasing my gelding Taz, who turned out to have some long standing body issues. I was working as a vet nurse and had a background in human massage so I started researching equine therapies. Within 6 months I discovered the Masterson Method and was instantly hooked – I love that this technique is so intuitive and it is something I do with the horse instead of to the horse.
Over the years I have also included my love of sewing and creating into my work. My passion is to create unique pieces and custom designs to add that little bit of something extra - especially using horsehair.
Outside of horses I enjoy figure skating (both ice and roller) and I very frequently can be found with my nose buried in a book.
