East Halton Show was a very blustery one.

Nevertheless it was lovely to catch up with folk, meet some new faces and see a few familiar ones in the ring, help others out with a Nervous Rider Remedy and microchip some more saddles.

It was also a good opportunity to get the tools out, between retrieving wind strewn objects from the tables, and stitch on some additional girth straps for a couple of clients.

The next and final show of the year is Lincs Horse Live in October.

As frustrating and challenging as last minute diary changes can be, sometimes it’s nice just to kick back for an hour and enjoy a pot of Yorkshire Tea!

It also gives me the chance to catch up on messages, diary bookings and rebookings, ordering and calls. 😅

Everything is in full swing here at Eckington Riding Club.

It’s a great little club that I’ve known for a lot of years having competed and been part of the committee with both Smartie and HippoHead.

It’s nice to be back for the day.

This weekend I hosted the first fitting clinic at East Dale Farm where I saw a number of horses and riders.

This is the only picture I took though! 🤦‍♀️

Fifi is a lovely young pony with a grand future ahead of her.

I saw her a few weeks ago as her saddle wasn’t quite right. After showing her owner where and why it wasn’t fitting I provided them with a lovely little Saddle Company small pony saddle which sat on her lovely, and fitted her rider nicely.

I checked it again this week to make sure we are still on the right lines and to check how the flock is bedding in. All was well and there was some improvement in Fifi’s topline too. 🥳

We discussed bits and I had a feel of her mouth conformation as part of my assessment. Fifi has the tiniest mouth whereby I could easily feel her offside bar with my thumbs from the near side. Essentially her bars are no further apart than the width of my phone!

She’s known for being fussy with her bit but as you can see in the picture we found a bit where she was so comfy with it she was stood quite happily holding it herself. 🥰

Last weekend was an early Christmas for not one but two adorable combinations.

It’s not too often I get to saddle fit smaller ponies but these two just melted my heart, and it’s a strange but wonderful coincidence that they were seen within a couple of hours of each other.

Both needed a new saddle and both were fitted with a 14” Saddle Company general purpose saddle with much needed point straps. Apart from Toby having his in black with purple facings, and Alfie having his in havanna, they were identical.

It was a glorious and freezing day for the fittings, but it’s safe to say there are two happy little girls and two much more comfy ponies now.
