How and when you speak to your dog is crucial to training success. It is important to remember that the more excited you get your dog the harder it will be for him to be calm and have manners. If...

One of the best ways to keep me quiet when someone comes to the door is to keep guests quiet too. Knocking, ringing the doorbell and voices at the door are big triggers to set me off barking. Ask expected guests to just walk in the door and to please not shout their arrival. XOXOXO THE IDEAL DOG

Do
I shy or run from you when you try to grab my collar? Play the collar
grab game. Grab my collar, give me a treat, then let me go back to what I
was doing. Wait a moment, grab my collar again, give me a treat, then
release me. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Fun game for both of us!

No matter what the situation is, I'm more likely to let go of the item
in my mouth if there is something better to put in my mouth. Instead of
yelling at me for grabbing the t.v. remote, drop some pieces of cheese
on the floor near me. If you threaten me or try to grab the item, I'm
inclined to start a game of "catch me if you can." XOXOXOX THE IDEAL DOG

My pacing in a fixed pattern about the yard or house may be a sign of
stress. Help me to get out of this cycle by calling me, engaging me in a
play session, or tossing bits of food in my path. How I don't like it
when the neighborhood dogs (and their owners) call me neurotic or hyper!
