The class that just graduated was so much fun, we only had female dogs and two of them had the same name of Luna.
They are now getting ready to take the next intermediate class that starts in two weeks on July 20th.
The next beginners class starts on Saturday July 13th and I still have open spots 🙂

Join the dog obedience and manners class that starts on Saturday 11/11/23. The class is outdoors in a park so your dog can learn to pay attention to you even with distractions, and there is room to spread out and practice distance learning like "come" or "stay". There is a maximum of 6 dogs, so hurry!

Give your new puppy a good start in life! The Puppy Headstart program is designed for puppies who are between 9-17 weeks old. In only 4 sessions you will get a puppy assessment, learn what to do about nipping and jumping behaviors, how to let your new family member explore her environment for good socialization, and more.

Toys, Toys, and more Toys !! Let's say you adopted a dog during the Covid confinement. Your dog's entire world revolves around you being there for him. But one day you have to leave him alone for very long hours...
scenario 1: your dog will be calm knowing that you are coming back and he has plenty of things to occupy him while you are gone. That's great! 🙂
scenario 2: your dog will worry about you, are you coming back? are you lost? who will feed him or cuddle with him?? He might decide to alert the whole neighborhood by barking, and to find a way out of the house by pulling on your blinds or scratching your door... not so great! ☹️
Aim for scenario One: make sure your dog has plenty of things to do when you're not around. Start with toys, toys, and more toys !!

Sometimes the best way to teach a dog is when you say nothing at all. You just need to show her. the couch or the chair is not hers pulling gets her nowhere begging for attention is useless
All this without uttering a word but still using the gentle positive method. Remember that dogs do not speak our language, sometimes you can try and "speak" theirs. :)

Yes!!! group classes with social distancing is possible !! I have two "Basic Skills and Social Manners" classes starting next week, Saturday 7/11 in Ventura.
There are a still a few spots left. The classes are small to allow for social distancing so you will need to sign-up quickly if you wish to reserve a spot for your dog. Contact me for more info and to sign-up.

My New Year's resolution is to play more with my dog!
Engaging in playtime with your dog is a crucial element to having a well-behaved happy dog. Playing fetch is a wonderful game, but it's not the same as getting down on his level and actually playing together (gentle tug, wrestle, chase). Having a basket full of toys is wonderful, but it's not the same as actually demonstrating how to play with them. Engaging in interactive play avoids a lot of frustration behaviors like jumping, nipping and chewing.

You just took your dog to a Basic Manners class, great! now what? Will you remember why and when to use what you've learned? Will you remember to say bed/stay when visitors arrive? Will you remember to say Lie-down when Fido gets too excited? Will you remember to be consistent and use the exact word your dog learned, and say "come" instead of "come on over here right now"?
Keep it easy for your dog, keep practicing ! 🙂

Another great class ended and another great class will start in a few days 🙂 After that it's Thanksgiving 🦃. We only had 2 students for the level-2 class, everyone else missed out on a great Heel, Stand, Fetch, Drop-it and more. Next time...

Your dog has separation anxiety, should you get another dog?? sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't :( It all depends on the underlying cause of the anxiety... you will say it's because she is left alone in the house, evidently. but maybe she is simply afraid to be alone, maybe she has nothing to do when alone, maybe she has taken on the wrong role in the family, maybe she has attachment issues, and maybe and maybe...
So.... should you get another dog?? well, it depends 🤔
