I'm always a little scared to post about feeding or nutrition on the internet because, whoooo boy, have I gotten some strong comments over the years.😝

I know a lot of you feed The Honest Kitchen either exclusively or, like we do, in rotation. I usually pick mine up at Petco, but they're having a HUGE sale for first-time online orders for both cat and dog food. Could be worth a stock-up if you haven't ordered online before!! Here in Indiana, winter is in full force with more snow expected today! We don't let that stop us from hitting the trails, though. In fact, sometimes it's much, much nicer to hike in the quiet hush of a snow-covered forest.

Penny isn't a huge fan of the snow, but she loves a walk in the woods, no matter the weather! I'm revisiting this post from 2018 (!) to refresh on tips, plus there were lots of helpful bonus tips in the comments. Hi! 👋 I’m Maggie, and this is Penny.

In case we haven't met, I'm a dog-obsessed author and blogger. I share my home with a husband, two girls, two cats, one dog, innumerable fish and shrimp, and one frog named Millicent Quibb.

3 things to know about me and Penny:

🤟 Penny is deaf, partially-sighted, and quite possibly the coolest pup on the planet. Our family was already learning ASL because my youngest daughter is hard-of-hearing, and it's been such an incredible language-learning journey.
🐶 Penny came to us nearly a year ago as a rescue from an animal hoarding situation. She's the sweetest dog you will ever meet, and while she does have a lot of quirky behaviors, she's settled into our home and routines almost perfectly.
📚 I write about dogs, cats, and the pet industry. My book, FOR THE LOVE OF DOG, will be out from Regalo Press in 2025. I literally get to pet dogs and scritch cats and then write about it for a living.
