Canine influenza, or “dog flu,” is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can be passed from dog to dog. It typically starts with a cough and can be mistaken for the more common and well-known Bordetella. In some cases, canine influenza can progress to pneumonia.

In 1999, shortly after graduating from Michigan State University with her doctorate of veterinary medicine, Dr. Lara McMahon joined the North Country Veterinary Clinic team under the mentorship of owners Dr. David Plante and Dr. Teresa Dewey. Fast forward 25 years through a couple of hospital name changes, a relocation to a bigger and better facility, and the retirement of her mentors leading to new ownership; Dr. McMahon still is providing compassionate care to the pets of the North Country. Congratulations on this milestone! We are privileged to have you as a part of our community as well as a part of our VCA North Country Animal Hospital team!

The competitive spirit was alive and well as we celebrated our "VCA Olympics" this week! Our staff competed in a number of crazy games. Our tech, Jaynne, had the quickest fingers winning the E-collar Challenge! Our VAs, Emily and Makenzie, were the best at the Dystocia Toss, while Lauren, who brought her game face, won the Cat Glove Challenge! Congratulations to the winners! 🏆
