Whether sniffing for food or to check out surroundings, much information is gathered through scent. Your snuffle mat can be used for food, treats, essential oils or even to add your personal scent...all 'feel good' smells for your pawsome friend.

Most walk their dogs everyday- sometimes you just need to get them out before going to work and other times you want to take them somewhere 'good' but your dog has other ideas and wants to sniff along the way. Sniffing takes time - well sniffing is important so if you can then let them! There are numerous reasons they do this and checking in on daily PMail is one! don't fret- make the most of it and let them enjoy their walks and catch up on what's going on.

Welcome to the first day of summer! This is a great time to start paying attention to how the outdoor temperature can put your pawsome friends at risk. Keep the water bowl filled and have cooling options in mind to keep your pets safe...find shade, or a cool basement, get a kiddies pool or a cooling mat...and enjoy your summer!

This is a brilliant guide if you're struggling to decide whether to take your pooch out or not! Having been out and about I was concerned for the amount of dogs in town at the hottest part of the day, visibly struggling in the heat. Please please please think again. I walked my dogs at 9.30pm last night, both wearing their cool coats and they were still hot, so dread to think what they'd have been like at midday in the scorching sun!

Be careful out there! 🐶☀️☀️

Tick season is well underway. After being out and about with your dog, do a thorough search for ticks. Run your hands through the fur and apply gentle pressure to feel any bumps...like doing a quick loving massage. Also check face, ears, tail, belly, paws and in between toes.

Just a heads up, this tick was found on a dog today with no travel history outside the city. Possibly picked up around the deer valley trails area. While less common in the city, ticks are certainly present. Consider monthly tick preventatives. If you find a tick, do bring it to your veterinarian for testing. The government pays for the testing to monitor the prevalence of tick borne diseases such as Lyme disease.

Prevent Pet Suffocation

Spring has arrived and many puppies have already received invitations to forever homes. In welcoming your new pawsome friend to their new home, please remember to dog-proof their new surroundings. Chip bags, in particular, can be very attractive to dogs of any age and fatal. Never leave your dog unattended or at home alone with an empty bag that they can access.

Educating the public on the suffocation risks our pets face from chip bags and other products. This page is dedicated to the memory of Blue, our beautiful rescue dog, who suffocated on December 15, 2011 from a Cheetos bag.

That Dog Geek

It's puppy season! Help to create a solid foundation for your new puppy! This video highlights how we can unintentionally place misguided expectations on our pawsome friends during training.

Dogs learn through context not generalization so when you take the time to train the same commands in different settings, you're helping to develop more consistent behavior in your dog...and clearer expectations.

Does your dog struggle to focus when they're out and about, or at exciting times like when visitors arrive? Watch this video to learn why dogs struggle in these circumstances, and how to overcome the problem.

Why Supervising Dogs and Kids Doesn’t Work

Such a great article on how good intentions may not get the results family members are looking for to safeguard children and their pawsome friends. Over 50% of injuries treated, that are due to dog bites, are for kids 5 to 9 yrs of age.

It's important to understand when your dog is telling you they are uncomfortable and what some of the things are that they really don't enjoy. You can download a simple infographic to help teach your children some of the do's and dont's when they interact with their pawsome friends.

This Saturday's Animal Shelter Family Fun Day Fundraiser organized by Footsteps for a cause fundraisers St.Paul non-profits is a great opportunity to engage children in promoting such a valuable cause. Lots of fun waiting to happen...make sure to check it out!

It’s sound advice given frequently: Supervise your dogs and kids while they are together. Breeders warn parents, “Don’t leave the dog alone with children, no matter how friendly the breed.” Veterinarians advise, “Never leave a dog and a child in the same room together.” Dog trainers explain, “All d...

Snuffle Mats for Purchase

13/03/2017

With Easter only a month away it's a good time to start planning for the Easter festivities!

Since our pawsome friends are such special members of our family, why not include them in the fun of the Easter hunt. Treat them to a snuffle mat and let the scavenger hunts begin...and make the hunt a part of their daily routine.

I’ve been working on snuffle mats made from upcycled fabrics and the results have exceeded my expectations. I’ve had so much fun designing them and I think your dog and cat will find them fun too!

I’m working on some smaller ones that I’ll be finishing up soon. If you’re interested in a mat, please pm me. If you like the mats, please Share with friends. And if you’d like to see the new designs, Follow my page.

I’ve donated a snuffle mat for the Animal Shelter Family Fun Day Fundraiser event coming up next weekend...what a great way to fundraise for such a needed cause. Tara Severin Footsteps for a cause fundraisers St.Paul non-profits has done a great job setting up this event and giving families another occasion to celebrate family day!
