Avery is still in quarantine, but he is starting to realize that he is safe, and his happy puppy energy is coming out. đź’•
I invite large, semi-feral beasts into my home & allow them to choose which valueable objects I no longer need. Then I make them go to cotillion & the vet.

Avery is here!
He walks on a leash. He’s house trained. He knows basic commands. He has the softest mouth and the sweetest eyes and just wants to quietly sit next to someone.
He has a five day quarantine and then get neutered, but right after that he’ll be available and looking for the perfect home.
Thank you, Susan, Amy, and Nikia!
Avery is headed to us tomorrow! He is a young adult, probably still growing, sweet, dog-friendly, and easy-going, but stressed in a crowded, high-kill shelter.
At about 100lbs, we’re guessing Standard Poodle X (maybe that X=wolfhound, but his head seems a little broad for that). Thoughts? What do you think Avery is?
Look who regrew the hair on his tail!!
Bubbles/Titan update: his new daddy describes him as the perfect dog. He is settling in well and loving his new life. Thank you, Scott and ABARS! đź’•đź’•đź’•
Update: B-3 (It’s where his name landed up. Don’t ask me, I don’t make the rules) is the result of an unholy union between a Muppet and a windup toy. He is 5 pounds of blurry, constant motion, and is recovered from his neuter surgery. Now we’re working on the concept of house training. (wish me luck), and soon he will be ready for his dental cleaning/extractions.
It is with great sadness that I share the news of Rampage!!’s passing. He was ancient and infirmed when we pulled him from a high-kill shelter more than two years ago. Nikia Ellis and Myles fostered him and then chose to keep the decrepit little weirdo and indulge his every need. While I am saddened by his death, I am even more impressed by the love and devotion shown by my brothers and sisters in rescue.
B-cubed is stoned but doing well. đź’•
Buster Belvedere Buttons (a.k.a. B-cubed) was my pint-sized copilot today. Tomorrow is his neuter surgery. Send good thoughts.
Buster/Belvedere/Buttons has put on about a pound (20% + of his body weight), so I’ve moved him from four meals a day to three. I had him quarantined until this morning when he got to meet some of the Wolfhounds and the small dogs. Then I put him back in the heated sub-basement. This is the door that leads from there to the first floor of the house. Excuse its appearance: it’s 107-year-old house. Anyway, he’s coming along really well and is super sweet and personable. That is the actual speed at which his tail wags when he’s happy, which is pretty much all the time.
Tiny Buster has been busted out of Douglasville and will be here Wednesday!! He’s missing a little hair, and his corneas are ulcerated where his hair had matted and stuck to his eyeballs, and his teefers are looking a little funky, but he’s going to be just fine. Welcome, Buster!!
Pupdate on Bubbles/Titan. đź’•đź’•đź’•
Bubbles/Titan is adopted!
This big boy saw Scott, and it was like he was being reunited with his long lost human. What a perfect match!
Bubbles couldn’t figure out how to get out of the truck. Then he decided that he really didn’t want me to be wearing a hat, so he took it off my head and put it somewhere, then came back to snuggle me while he contemplated the whole truck issue.
Bubbles is such a sweetheart! It’s funny how small 140lbs looks compared to the wolfhounds.
Hi, my name is Karen, and I rescue really big dogs. Yes, I said I wasn’t doing this anymore. I can’t be trusted in this regard.
Meet Bubbles. he is neutered, heartworm, negative, and up-to-date. He is dog-friendly, human-friendly, and cats give him the heebie-jeebies.
A wonderful shelter director named Maureen (đź’•) scooped him up from a high kill shelter and brought him to her very, very low kill shelter.
But, as everyone in animal care and rescue knows, this is the time of year when dumped and abandoned animals start pouring into shelters. This boy needed a place to land, and I am glad that he is coming here.
A Lady Happ Photo update: she is clearly cherished by her new human family who indulge her love of clothing, shopping, and trips to Starbucks. Her heartworm treatment continues without any setbacks. Thank you so much for seeing this resilient little diamond and letting her shine! đź’•đź’•đź’•
Lady Happ update: To quote one of her humans, “It’s hard to imagine that she was ever unhappy.” 💕💕💕
Lady Happy went into heat a few days ago. She is still undergoing heartworm treatment, has a heart murmur, and is more than eight years old, so all we can do right now is wait. Because a dog in heat in my house is chaos, we found her a nice sleepaway camp (a.k.a. foster), where she has a human all to herself, a fenced yard, a supportive family, and lots of love. Who knows, this may develop into a more permanent placement, but for right now she’s having a great time eating steak and hanging out with her new best friend.

Princess Peach waking up, safe at last, and just as quickly going back to sleep. The poor old girl is exhausted from her time loose in the world and her time in the crowded, noisy shelter. I am grateful that she is not in the middle of shelter madness on a concrete floor during this holiday storm.
I realized that the last post about Oto made it seem like he might be standoffish. Nothing could be further from the truth. He reminds me of a Victorian butler; he somehow manages to not exist unless you’re looking for him, then, there he is. If you show him any sign of interest, he becomes a squirmy, kissing machine. He also likes to show off his fangs in a lovely smile.
Nikia and Myles are miracle workers! Nine days after being pulled from a high kill shelter, described as “unhandleable”and a biter, look who asked to be picked up!! Now that she has adequate nutrition, her hair is even starting to grow back and her scabs are healing! Go, Lulu!! 💕💕💕
Lulu is settling in at her foster’s, but is going to take a little while to decompress. Poor thing. I can’t imagine being 3 1/2 pounds and a large, high-kill shelter. She is almost hairless, but we’re assuming it’s a result of her previous flea infestation, which has been treated.
