A Thursday shout out to officers at the Edmonton Police Service for their compassion in managing a situation with one of our past clients who is, unfortunately, a client once again.

This client is a family violence survivor, who has had violence re-enter her life. Edmonton police officers were called to the home. The victim needed to be taken downtown but officers did not want to do this until her dog was placed in our Pet Safekeeping Program. The victim was emotional and officers recognized how important the animal was to the survivor, and they did not want to leave the dog in the home with the abuser.

The dog travelled with the survivor to the police station where we met them to accept the animal into our care until the legal issues in this case are resolved. The dog is in a safe place! The survivor knew she could trust us to care for her beloved family member.

The cases our team deal with are complex, emotional and often heartbreaking. Our team works hard to ensure pets can remain with their families for the long-term, even if there is a short-term crisis.
Thank you to the officers at the Edmonton Police Services who treated all in this volatile situation with dignity, and ensured the animal was in a safe and trusted place.

If you or someone you know is facing a crisis situation that may leave the person or their pet at risk, we may be able to help. Call 780-447-3600 ext. 3750 or email [email protected].
