Meet Hank.
Hank is a 13 yr old blue tick hound. His family brought him to a clinic for euthanasia. They were moving and could not afford his care. He did not qualify for euthanasia and was surrendered. He is now at a local shelter but will make his way here today. Thank you Lesley and Jason!!!
Hank is overweight and likely has some thyroid issues. The shelter has started his care and he’s doing a little better. He’s likely depressed as well.
I asked our Patreon’s if we could rally and fit this guy in. Could we raise funds for vet care and give him a soft landing? Could we let Hank see the ocean for maybe the first time ever? They said yes. So here we are. Another sweet old soul coming to rest his bones at the farm. A frosty face that will break all of our hearts sooner than later. A good ‘ol boy who will appreciate every day that he has left, I’m sure.

Look at this happy pup! Chica, a brave rescue from the amazing , has found her perfect home with her wonderful guardian Mary after a tough journey. It's that time of year again. If you find yourself dreading Fourth of July because you know it means a night of your dog pacing and trembling in fear with each loud boom, you're not alone. Noise sensitivities affect many dogs, and they tend to worsen (not fade away) with each negative experience.
But it doesn't have to be this way! You can help your dog feel safe and have a set of strategies in place to improve your dog's experience (and yours, too!). But don't wait. They're coming! Reach out to your vet ASAP if your dog needs meds!

Her family, due to move notice and breakup need to rehome her asap.

At 10 years old and blind in one eye, she won't do well at any pound.
Polka loves to lay outside or on her dog bed and smiles when happy. She loves to be brushed too.

Throw back to my time as an off leash play group person in SF. One of the best jobs ever with seriously the cutest crew that ever lived. This was 2012 ish ❤️❤️🐾🐾🐶🐶😎 I did this for around 6 years 2006-2012. I was lucky enough to work for someone that was a Jean Donaldson Academy grad, so received a fantastic education from the go. I even sat in on Jean Donaldson workshops at the SFPCA and saw Buffy at a distance. I’ve been so lucky to fall in with the science loving crowed since the beginning. ❤️❤️

Throw back to my SF walking days! This looks like McLaren park. I see Franklin, Ivy, Rosie and I don’t know the fourth little guy in the photo. These were the days but I didn’t know they were the days!
As a behavior specialist, one of the most common questions I hear is, “How long will this take?” I always explain that, like most things in life, there are no guarantees when it comes to behavior change. If a professional guarantees a specific outcome, that’s a red flag—it’s unethical, and I would never work with them.
We must remember that we’re not trying to change who your dog is. Instead, we’re helping them feel better in the world, keeping them safe through management and targeted training. By working with them holistically, we aim to improve their overall well-being. When they feel better, they do better.
Reflecting on my journey with Xochi, I can’t believe we’ve been together for almost three years now. Xochi has challenged me in many ways, some due to my reactions to stress and others due to her past experiences. There were countless times I wanted to give up, but I didn’t.
Now, I see a light in her eyes that wasn’t there before, growing brighter each day. While she’s not perfect, neither am I. But I’m committed to providing her a home where she feels safe and happy, where a brightness shines through her eyes and a lightness shows in her body language.
Xochi isn’t the dog I imagined, but in helping her heal, I’ve found magic and healing for myself too. I look forward to many more years together, as we continue our slow, steady, and quiet journey towards becoming the best versions of ourselves.

It’s important to remember not only does behavior change take time, it actually takes practice as well. When we are addressing serious behaviors it is important to understand there are no quick-fixes or magic pills. Learning what the practice is and then actually doing the practice are two different things entirely. When speaking to guardians about separation anxiety, the biggest heartbreak I suffer from is the majority of them feel that they did this to their dog. They’ve been told by popular culture, other trainers, friends, family, even the voice inside their head tells them that they are responsible for this panic. The part I love is that I get to explain to them that if we go to the evidence, it’s unclear as to where separation anxiety comes from. It is unclear how to prevent it from presenting in our dogs. Luckily, we do know that when our dogs are showing panic triggered by alone time, we do know how to help him. So let your dog sit on your lap, sleep in your bed, cuddle with you 24 seven, throw them a birthday party, let them eat at the table, let them walk out the doors in front of you, none of this caused panic for alone time issues. If your dog is showing panic when left alone, make sure to reach out to a professional that specializes in this area like myself. I am a certified separation anxiety trainer, and I have guided mini guardians and their dogs to comfortable alone time.
