Did you know that letting your dog swim in ponds after flea and tick treatments could harm aquatic wildlife? 🐾💧 A brand new study in London’s Hampstead Heath found harmful chemicals, like imidacloprid and fipronil from pet treatments, in ponds where dogs swim, exceeding environmental toxicity thresholds. These pesticides can impact invertebrates and biodiversity in the water.

As part of the study, a number of dog owners were surveyed.
🐶 40% used spot-on, collar or spray on flea and tick products
🐶 86% were unaware of the environmental risks
🐶 94% would choose safer alternatives

First author, Lauren Yoder, from the Royal Veterinary College said "Dog owners can play an important part in reducing the overall impact on the water that dogs enjoy by checking if they really need to use these products. 🌿💔 We’re sending our best wishes to Miranda Hart as she shares her diagnosis of Lyme disease. It's a reminder of the importance of being vigilant about tick prevention for ourselves and our furry friends.

Lyme disease is transmitted through bites from infected ticks, which can be difficult to spot, especially on pets with fur or pigmented skin. That’s why it’s crucial to regularly check for ticks on ourselves and our animals after spending time outdoors and to use protective measures like tick repellents.

Typically we forgot and didn’t even remember until a visitor sought us out BECAUSE they’d seen we were finalists 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️💀

Our flea and tick repelling harnesses and bandanas WERE up for an award and we are now shamelessly plugging that, instead of before because that makes sense and we can’t do the logical thing 🙃
