Ticks need high humidity to avoid drying out (80% or higher) and daytime temperatures of at least 7 degrees C, which unfortunately is very common in rainy Britain!

When I attended Edition Dog Live this year, I saw a brand called Whippa Snappa and of course the name drew me because it was similar to whippet!
I was blown away - this ingenious bandana is embedded with insect repellent to keep fleas and ticks away from your dog.
It has something called IR3535 woven into the fabric, a substance that's been around for over three decades and is inspired by a natural occurring amino acid. It has been declared by the World Health Organisation and other agencies as safe for pets and people alike so it shields your dogs without harming it’s health or the environment AND they don't harm the insects which a lot of other products do.
The bandana designs are gorgeous, they are thin, but feel high quality and have a reflective strip on them too. The repellent remains effective for 80 washes for bandanas, and 30 washes for harnesses, with no need to reapply.
I’ve had concerns about the highly chemical ways to avoid ticks and fleas on my dogs so I’m really looking forward to seeing how I get on with these!

Beautiful Momo is out in the woods for some Mantrailing! Did you know Momo means 'peach' in Japanese?
Momo wears our Enchanted Forest Bandana. When a dog is mantrailing, they often have their nose to the ground following the scent of the 'missing' person. Our bandanas and harnesses are popular with Mantrailers! Mantrailing is a dog sport where your dog learns to find people through their scent. The sense of smell is the dogs most distinct sense so we are harnessing this and having a great game where you work together to find the ‘missing person’.
When dogs have their nose to the ground in the undergrowth, they're likely to pick up ticks especially on their faces. It's important not to use strongly scented natural tick preventions like peppermint oil or lemon eucalyptus as these strong odours can totally throw the dog off. If they smell strongly to us, imagine having 20x the number of scent receptors!

Whose dog get's really bothered by mosquitoes? Mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water, and can lay 100's of them at a time. The eggs then hatch into larvae which live in the water, and finally emerge from the water as (hungry) adults.
We're lucky in the UK that our mosquitoes don't carry vector borne diseases like Zika, dengue and yellow fever, but they definitely cause us a lot of irritation!

Whether you want to reduce your use of pharmaceutical flea and tick treatments on your dog, or you prefer to stick strictly to alternatives, Whippa Snappa's insect repellent is inspired by nature and gentle on your pet and the environment.
There is increasing evidence to say that current, year-round blanket usage of pharmaceutical prophylactic treatments is not sustainable. This includes spot-on (topical) treatments, ingestible treatments (in tablet form), injections and pesticidal collars. Parasites can pose a risk of disease to companion animals and their owners.
