đ„Congratulations to Case Calhoun! NJHFR World Champion Boys Breakaway! đ„
Recently, there was a news article published in ND accusing a veterinary clinic of not caring and being negligent. I wasnât present, so I donât know what happened. I will say this, there are two sides to every story.
Iâve been in their shoes. Iâve been accused of killing someoneâs animal, not doing my job, not caring, etc.
Itâs easy for people to get upset when someone in the community says, âI took my animal in to the vet for a cough, and he died. They did something wrong and killed him.â
What if I told you the animal was a 26 year old gelding with a BCS 1/5? The cough? This horse was a lifetime asthmatic who was poorly managed at best. Because of that, he was now in congestive heart failure with a bad case of pneumonia. The thin body condition? He had no teeth, but the owner would not put the horse on processed feed daily. The horse died. So is it the veterinarianâs fault?
I truly believe the end of privately owned veterinary clinics is coming to an end. (Maybe even small businesses in general.) Most rural practices are down to one or two veterinarians who are expected to be on call 24/7/365.
The amount of online courses a person can take that allows an average person to do what I sacrificed 7 years of life and $200,000 in student loans for is ridiculous. Why go to vet school anymore?
âYou should take a vacation.â
âI called when you were gone (at my nephewâs birthday), and my horse died because you couldnât come.â
âHire some more staff.â
âYou would not believe my vet bill.â
âYou need to say no to more people.â
âWhat do you mean you canât come this week?â
âMake some time for your kids.â
âI can only do Tuesday or Thursday after 6:00pm. My kids have things going on.â
Somehow, the world has lost touch with reality. Animals live and animals die. We do our best to intervene, but we somehow have forgotten that we donât have the final say.
I love this job. Whether Iâm looking at animals or not, itâs on my mind 24/7. But none of us are perfect, we all make mistakes. Iâve made plenty, and somehow, those clients have known this and still stuck with me. I have some good ones.
If something goes wrong, you do have a right to be angry. Itâs normal. You do not have a right to destroy someoneâs life and business. So before you jump in with the social media lynch mob, take a breath and remember that you arenât hearing the whole story.
A wonderful family to work with and an amazing pony full of heart and grit that outruns the full-sized horses. Congratulations Kort and the entire Lyon family! Ashley Blakely Lyon
Letâs take a moment to appreciate one of our world champions, brought to you by our friends at ! We are proud to have Wrangler as a long time supporter of the NLBRA!
Kort Lyon, World Champion Little Wrangler Barrel Racing is the 9 year old from Canton, MS and has been a member of the the National Little Britches Rodeo Association for 4 years. We asked Kort to tell us a little bit about the horse that helped him accomplish this goal and he stated âPrincess is my barrel pony. I got her from Cara Beth Calhoun. Prisy my flag pony, Cowboy is my pole pony, and I use Hot Rod for goatsâ.
Winning this title was something special to Kort, âIt was amazing to win this title. Not only was I the only boy in the top 10 in the world, but I was the only one riding a pony. I knew my pony could win because she has been running with the fastest horses since before I was bornâ.
According to Kort, in order to be a champion you must work hard, have a positive attitude, and a supportive family. In the coming years, Kort hopes to one day be a World Champion Team Roper.

Very inflamed and sore stifles that were only 1 month overdue for maintenance injections. This is why getting your performance horses evaluated by a veterinarian, at least once every 6 months, is critical for their well- being and performance. This horse is going to feel better than ever for high school rodeo finals!
Very inflamed stifles. We drained much more off this stifle prior to this video and injecting. This performance horse will feel much better after the hind end workup/treatment we did for her!
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) injections to relieve soreness and pain. The yellow flash is joint fluid which shows us that we are administering the intra-articular medications into the correct location.
Sometimes the quick lil barrel ponies need injecting too. This girl should be feeling great after this! **This procedure should only be performed by a licensed veterinarian**
Huge congratulations to Cole Bilbro for winning 2nd place at a very competitive, professional rodeo recently in Laurel, MS! This whole family is constantly showing up and showing out at pro rodeos!đ đ€©
Congratulations to Hanna Bilbro for placing at a huge professional rodeo recently in West Monroe! Had a lot of tough, competitive riders show up to this rodeo, so placing was a huge accomplishment! Congrats!
This horse had a very inflamed flexor tendon sheath due to an injury. We injected platelet rich plasma (PRP) and followed up with a hyaluronate sodium and corticosteroid injection a couple months later to help promote healing, decrease inflammation and scar tissue from forming, and resolve pain and lameness. Give us a call to see how we can help you and your performance horse compete at your maximum potential!
