CINNAMON NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Cinnamon, who I mentioned in a previous post, is a juvenile Trumpeter Swan. She flew into some power lines about a month ago and plummeted 25 ft. to the ground.

To our amazement, Cinnamon had no broken bones but had significant head and spinal trauma. Also, when her blood work came back, we noticed she had lead poisoning. We believe the lead exposure may have impaired her ability to safely steer clear of the wires.

She is now on the mend, and it looks like she’ll make a full recovery.

CINNAMON’S STORY OF RESOLVE and COURAGE is only made possible by our donors.

Please share this story with all your friends and family and let them know that if we receive their donation by midnight tonight, their gifts will be doubled. Together we can achieve our goal of $50,000. Thank you!

November 25, 2024 - ANOTHER FLIGHT

Shortly before 5 a.m. this morning, Korean Air Cargo flight 8214 left the Edmonton airport carrying more horses to Japan, where they will be slaughtered.

⚠️The journey is a grueling one for the horses, who are denied food, water, and rest from when they leave the feedlot until their arrival at quarantine in Japan.

⚠️In the last year alone, 21 horse deaths have been linked to these flights.

Bill C-355 would end these shipments and is currently at the second debate stage in the Senate.

A coyote's "appearance" of indifference to the presence of a human in a natural/urban scape is not due to the coyote being fearless but an amazing ability to calculate the risk or danger our species can pose. If a coyote responded by fleeing every instance a human was spotted, they would be using vital energy needed to forage and hunt countless times throughout the day.

It is so important to respect coyote's ability to forage and hunt without harmful food handouts from people. Never interfere with wildlife. Feeding, harassing, or allowing the family dog to chase or interact with a wild animal is illegal in many communities.

You may see a new coyote passing through your neighbourhood. This could be a dispersing juvenile about 7-7.5 months old or s/he is just out exploring their territory (home range). They may appear to be adult in size, but they are inexperienced and curious about the world around them. Give them space and humanely encourage them to move along. Leaving out food attractants may very well increase sightings and keep a coyote coming back to the feeding spot(s).
Whether a coyote is dispersing from their family territory or exploring their current home range, do not interfere with wildlife by feeding or letting your dog chase after them.

Responsible property, garbage and attractant management and pet guardianship goes such a long way to cultivate coexistence. We can all do our part.

Coyotes are sentient beings. Coyotes are resilient, family-oriented, playful, and highly intelligent canids. They thrive incredibly well when humans leave them be and do not feed them. Practice responsible pet guardianship by using a leash. Most of all, be kind.

October 22, 2024 has been designated by animal protection organizations across Canada as a Day of Action against the export of live horses by air for slaughter, and it is imperative that advocates reach out to their provincial Senators.

Bill C-355, an act to stop the export of live horses by air for slaughter, passed in the House of Commons earlier this year.

Thanks to horse protection advocates like you, our Members of Parliament recognized the importance of eliminating this cruel trade and worked to ensure the Bill’s swift passage through the House.

Unfortunately, though, Bill C-355 is stalled in the Senate, largely due to delaying tactics by several Conservative Senators (led by Senate Opposition Leader, Don Plett).

𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 has been designated by animal protection organizations across Canada as a 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 against these cruel exports, and it is imperative that advocates reach out to their provincial Senators on that day.

🐴Please phone, email, or do both for the horses! Go here to find your Senators: https://sencanada.ca/en/senators/?v=list Then choose Province (Designation) to locate your provincial Senators. Phone numbers and email addresses for each Senator are to be found by clicking on individual names.

🐴If you prefer to use an easy email tool to contact your Senators, MP Tim Louis (the author of Bill C-355) has created one: https://www.timlouismp.ca/bill-c355. However, please note that individually written letters or phone calls carry the most impact.
