I’m not currently taking on any more clients. Thanks so much for all of your interest! It’s been overwhelmingly incredible!

I did some serious contemplation and I am at the sweet spot with my current client load. Especially with hurricane season here, and a predicted active season coming. I cannot take on any more clients at present.

I don’t know any sitters personally, but there are some people I hear given high praise of on the local FB group St. Croix Pet Sitting and Animal Care Services. I definitely recommend posting your needs on there.

Some folks I see commonly praised are “hippy dippy” and “Erin bowman”.

I love getting to know my client pets! I love how things go smoother and smoother after each visit. This dog is a little bit nervous but she comes out of her shell for the right people! I am so pleased and thankful to be one of those people!

Come get your dog please!

Having your pet off leash and without recall can create some some very scary situations!

I’ve been there when walking a fearful dog, and two teen dogs came running up fast. I stood my ground and they backed off. But it happened again.

It made the training I did in the fearful dog revert for a really long time.

On my last visit I always try to leave the place better than I found it. This often just involves sweeping. Haha, it’s not much but I find it means a lot to my clients. Last day watching these kittums. I hope I get to watch them again in the future!

Kitten season is year-round here on St. Croix. Get with St. Croix Animal Welfare Center or REAL Cruzan Cats and get your felines fixed ASAP! The cat epidemic has and is causing so many problems on this tiny island! Even contributing to the extinction of native species.

I miss Franklin and Beans of my last pet care gig! Figuring out how to deal with Franklin without getting attacked was a really fun learning challenge.

The last handful of days was him coming up to me and rubbing my legs, asking to play, rather than getting randomly attacked and bitten. Haha.

Fosters needed!!

This is Franklin.
He’s not really into being pet or touched. Which I’ve found out the hard way, after several tries… lol
So we’ve come to an agreement.
I won’t initiate touch.

It’s now been several days since I was personally victimized by Franklin (🤣).

He still comes to rub against legs and gives me love squints (slow blinks from cats are a sign of affection).

Sometimes it takes a minute, but, I will always do my time and figure out how to best get on with the animals I take care of.

Did you know that pinch, prong, and shock collars can cause aggression in your dogs?

This is because our lovely dogs have a very small prefrontal cortex. That means they have very little computational power.

So, when you are walking your dog with a pinch collar, they see a dog, get excited, pull a bit, then suddenly feel pain…

They cannot know and absolutely will not ever understand that it is the collar, and then pulling, that is actually causing them pain.

They associate that pain with the dog they see, and think to themselves “that dog hurt me!”.

Eventually they will likely start to growl and bark at other dogs to keep the dogs away, after all, it is because they saw a dog and that dog hurt them. (They believe). Growling and barking works to keep them away.

You can train your dog without pain inducing tactics. Retraining with a regular collar, moving to a Pet Safe Easy Walk harness, or as a last resort, a head collar like a Halti or Gentle Leader, will help you and your dog have better walks.

These last two recommendations help because they redirect your dog’s entire body, or head, in another direction without causing pain when used correctly.
