Sound Veterinary Hospital is having a low cost vaccine clinic this Saturday from 9-12:30!!!!
❤️ April is Heartworm Awareness Month ❤️
Heartworm disease is a threat to unprotected dogs in our area. Unprotected dogs, foxes and coyotes act as reservoirs, or sources, for the spread of this serious disease. Although easy to prevent, heartworm disease continues to be a major health problem
for dogs. Since heartworm disease is a complicated illness that can be deadly, the best approach is prevention. Heartworm preventatives are effective when given properly and on a timely schedule. All approved heartworm preventatives are highly
effective, safe, easy to use, relatively inexpensive, and often provide treatment for additional parasites. Prevention is always safer and more affordable than treating dogs with heartworm infections.
For our vaccine clinic this Saturday, April 20, available preventatives are MILBEHART(monthly oral tablet),
Simparica TRIO (monthly oral tablet that also prevents fleas and ticks), and PROHEART12 (a single injection that offers 12 months of prevention).
- Milbehart is available to Vaccine Clinic patients with a negative heartworm test.
- Simparica TRIO and PROHEART12 will only be dispensed to pets that have been a patient at Sound Veterinary Hospital within the last year. Dogs receiving PROHEART12 may need to schedule an appointment during regular office hours to receive the injection depending on medical history.
If your pet tests positive for Heartworms, prevention is still recommended. However, you will need to schedule an exam with your veterinarian to discuss the options for treatment before preventatives are started.
The best way to eliminate the risk of heartworm infection in your dog is to institute year-round
prevention!
