DAISY MAE'S IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED. The Process: How It Works
Thank you for visiting Daisy Mae’s Home Grown Cockatiels’ page. I do not endorse pellets. Susan
Permanently closed.
I am a small hobby breeder with over 30 birds. I breed one pair of cockatiels at a time and usually have babies available every month. However, as there is only one clutch of babies, they are limited. As I live alone and care for my birds on my own and am extremely busy, I do not have a waiting list. I ask that you please visit my page regularly, as I post new babies as they become available. If y
ou see one you like, please send me a message. I do require an application to be filled out so that I can better understand your living situation, such as other birds and animals, as well as your knowledge of bird keeping. The application helps me to help you. The application must be filled out and returned within 24 hours to be considered. Once the application is processed and you have chosen a baby, there is a nonrefundable deposit of $50 to hold the bird until it is ready to go home. Things you should know about my breeding program. I feed an all-natural diet that includes cooking a bean and brown rice mix, incorporating fresh veggies and herbs as well as other healthy foods, and seed into the diet. I will need to see your set up before the bird goes home. Once the NRD is paid, I will send information to better help you be prepared for your new baby. Once again, thank you for contacting Daisy Mae’s. I look forward to hearing from you.

For those who missed my announcement, I have had to close Daisy Mae's Home Grown Cockatiels permanently due to health issues.
I am so thankful for the years I was allowed to follow my passion and raise sweet, loving babies. Now, it is time for me to retire and enjoy what years I have left on this planet.
Thank you to all of my clients who helped to keep my dream alive. Much love to you all. ❤️

I am going to be turning off messaging for this page. I am getting too many inquiries for birds and honestly do not have the time or energy to answer them. I need to move on.
For those who wish to stay in contact with me, please follow the link to my personal messenger. I know some of you are waiting for babies and others have rehomed my birds, and I would love to get updates on them as well. Shoot me a message if we are not already connected so I can get you in my messenger. Thank you so much!
Update. The doc says I am clear of the pneumonia and now have pink eye. Why not? Might as well add that to the collection, lol.
I am still very weak and was told this is due to having severe pneumonia. It will take time to get my strength back and probably won't happen until the pink eye is resolved. I have been told to take it easy, so that is what I will do.
For my baby adopters, I will be pulling the babies tomorrow (Sunday) for hand feeding. I will just have to fight through this mess for now. Babies are getting big and must be pulled.
The parent birds are wanting to go into a second clutch, which at this time is not feasible for me. I do not have the energy to raise two overlapping clutches. I will be pulling the parents tomorrow as well. I personally want them to rest. Breeding is very taxing on a pair.
Slow and steady will win this race. It will be nice to feel well again. 🥰

Woke up with an infection in my left eye. Things seem to be going from bad to worse with my health. I am seeing my doctor today and pray to get some help.
~~~UPDATE~~ Both pairs of birds have been rehomed. 🥰
I have two pairs of birds that need new homes but I am not going to post them until I am well. I need to concentrate on getting better so it doesn't get worse.
For my baby adopters: I will do as many videos of the babies as I can but at this time, I am going to concentrate on getting well. Please have patience with me. I am no good to anyone if I am not well, and this is my priority now. Thank you.
Message for my lovely rehomers.
Hey guys, I ended up in the ER last night. Seems I have a pretty bad case of pneumonia. The cause has been determined it is due to my birds.
I have a huge favor to ask all of you. Per the doctor's very strong recommendation, I need to get the birds out asap. Every breath I take can land me back in the ER, so these guys really need to go.
It is devastating, all of this. To get so sick and then to lose my birds, but after the pain I was in last night, I know this is my only choice. If there is any way you can come get your birds sooner, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
~~~PENDING~~
Trevor and Daisy
This young pair is newly bonded and should be ready to breed once settled into their new home. Daisy is about 2 years old and a questimate on Trevor is about 3 years old.
Trevor is a vivacious boy with tons of personality. He loves to be on his people as much as possible. He is hand shy but has never bitten. Trevor is one of my pair’s grandson, Sheffield and Lydia.
Daisy is one of my babies who has come back. Her parents are Theodore and Millie. She has since the day she hatched been a spicy girl. She will protest and hiss but will immediately step up and once on your hand, she appreciates her head scratches. She will not bite no matter what she is doing, lol. Do not let this girl fool you. She likes to be loved, lol.
Either way, as pets only or pets that breed for you, they are a nice pair. They both come from loving homes so they only know love and kindness. Trevor has been around kids and does well with them. Daisy has not had the pleasure but I think she would acclimate nicely.
If you think you would be a good fit for Trevor and Daisy, shoot me a PM.
They are ready now. This pair’s fee is 3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣.
Thank you. ❤️

As announced, I will be rehoming 95% of my flock due to health issues. Now, Daisy Mae’s is known for raising loving tame babies, but cuddly birds must be raised this way.
Parrots are still classified as wild animals. They are not domesticated but rather, captive pets. Because of this, they are born with all of their wild instincts intact. It takes a breeder who hand feeds and handles the babies consistently to mold this wild animal into a loving, cuddly bird.
Breeders do not typically look for hand fed tame birds. Honestly, I chose to rescue and rehome birds from bad situations. My breeder birds are my pets but their job was to breed, so there was never an intent to tame them.
This does not mean they are not pet worthy. If anything, they deserve it the most. All birds can be worked with but most will not allow touching. This is a normal response for a bird. This does not make them any less a fun and entertaining pet. After some time, they will come and hang out with you when you least expect it. I love them all, the cuddly and the no touch’.
The other thing people need to understand is that once they are mated with another cockatiel, you have lost some of your appeal. It is to be expected. You are not and never will be another cockatiel, lol.
The birds I am rehoming are not cuddly, will not want to spend hours on you, will not want to follow you everywhere. They will flock call you, call you pretty bird, want you to talk to them, want to come out of their cage, and eventually, will watch t.v. with you.
Some of these birds are friendlier than others. One may be nice and the other not so much. Regardless, there is never a bird that does not want to be loved.
There will be rehoming fees depending on the birds and their dispositions. The fees will be minimal and nonnegotiable. I will describe what type of home I feel would be suitable for them and fit the person to the birds.
I only have pairs. Because cockatiels mate for life, they cannot be separated, so a part of the deal here is they need to stay together. If you have ever witnessed a cockatiel who has lost their mate, you would understand the complete devastation it causes the survivor. No one should ever put a bird through that intentionally.
As you know, I am all about the birds. I honestly only care about them and how happy I can make them. I want this to continue for them as they enter into their new homes and lives.

For my clients waiting for babies, update on the eggs is they are doing great. Egg one's estimated due date is this Friday, the 11th.
I have 3 eggs and depending on the genders, two are spoken for. I still need to go through my waiting list to determine if the last baby is spoken for as well.
While Daisy Mae's will be closing, moving forward, I will be posting rehomes as well as some of my breeder friend's babies looking for good homes. I have narrowed my birds down to 5 that I will be keeping for now. One pair is not rehomeable, the boy is just mean, lol, and one boy is too old.
The pair that is on eggs att will stay with me for now. There are personal reasons but suffice it to say I am not ready to let the girl go as of yet. Now, this pair can breed twice a year. I have elected to breed them once every 6 months if they so choose. This means once in a while, I might have babies down the road. I am not accepting preorders. If they have babies, I will post them and go from there.
I will be back with posts of my rehomes soon. I am finally at the tail end of this horrible flu. Thank you for your patience.

It is with such deep sadness that I am making this announcement, but with how hard reality has hit me this week, I know this is the only outcome for Daisy Mae's.
I have been very ill this week, to the point of barely being able to feed my birds. I have 30 little lives that depend on me to feed and take care of them. There is no one else.
As my health is declining, I am having to make the hardest decision of my life. I will be closing Daisy Mae's for good. I will be rehoming my birds so that they can be in a home where they will get the care they need.
I will not be selling them all to one individual. Each pair will go to a home that I have approved. Once I feel better, I will be posting each pair along with their descriptions.
For all of my wonderful past clients, thank you for being the reason Daisy Mae's was such a success. There is no way I could have done it without you. You are the reason I got to live my dream and for that, I am forever grateful. ❤️

Sorry I haven't been here. Got the flu and was down for a couple of days.
Update on Sugar and Cinnamon is good. The eggs are doing great, and they are wonderful parents. While Sugar is still not too happy about sharing the eggs, he does allow Cinnamon to take over for her shift, lol.
I ran into the chart below in a budgie group. Now, I am one who wants proof so if I can't s*x the babies genetically, I will always DNA test them. I thought, however, it might be fun to see if this even remotely works.
Going by the chart, I have two boys and a girl. Here is the really cool thing with these babies. All of them can be genetically s*xed. I will know instantly if the chart is correct or not.
It will be fun to see what comes of it. The first egg is due to hatch around the 11th of this month. Looking forward to having babies in the house again.

Update on Sugar and Cinnamon. Well, as seems to be the case for me, we had a bit of a rough patch. Everything started good. Cinnamon laid her first egg after 7 days in the breeding room.
Sugar was all about being a dad. It was going exactly as it should have. Cinnamon laid her first egg and then her second egg. That's when things got crazy.
Sugar became obssessed with the eggs and would attack Cinnamon when she tried to go into the breeding box. This poor girl was in the middle of laying her eggs and needed to go in the box.
I was afraid Sugar would harm Cinnamon and almost made the decision to pull the box. I will never put babies ahead of my parent birds. They come first.
I had to come up with a plan to save these eggs. What I decided to do was to take Sugar out of the breeding cage and put him in a sleep cage that was next to the breeding cage. Sugar was so upset, but it worked. Cinnamon could now go in the box and be with her eggs at night. Then in the morning, I put Sugar back in the cage so he could sit on the eggs for his shift.
Tonight I went in the breeding room to move Sugar over to the sleep and holy cow, Cinnamon was in the box with Sugar! Lol. I think he decided he didn't want to go in the sleep cage, lol.
Cinnamon laid her third egg last night. The first two eggs are fertile. Since this is a first breeding session for this pair, I don't know how many eggs she will lay. What I do know is I am so happy these two are back together. 😁🥰

This beautiful pearl girl is at Bridge's Pet Store in Snohomish, WA. There isn't a lot of information on her. I am full up or I would go get her in a heartbeat. You can call the store for more information at this number: (425) 322-4012.

BABIES!!! 🥰❤️
I know that static sound they make when hungry can be sooo obnoxious, but let me tell you, there is something much worse. It's when they stop begging for food. That's when you know they're in trouble, and it is so, so scary. I have brought stunted babies back from the brink of death and some have passed in my hands, so when they stop asking to be fed, it is always a full on emergency.
I am so thankful that this little one has pulled through. It was two days and nights of constant worry and stress, but I wouldn't change a single minute for this outcome.

Specializing in bigger normal grays
Back in the 90’s, I decided to breed cockatiels. Back then, the birds were very much like the wild cockatiels. They were big and beefy, a very sturdy bird. After many years of life, I am now semi-retired and have decided to hobby breed.
The mutations have flourished over the years, and while many are stunning, breeders are losing sight of what size a cockatiel should be. I am seeing small, almost dwarf-like cockatiels, due to over breeding, inbreeding, and poor breeding.
This realization has pointed me to my path when breeding cockatiels. I am so sad to see the normal gray becoming more and more rare. It is my mission then to produce bigger and healthier normal gray cockatiels, as well as standard mutations, such as the lutinos and pearls. I want to bring back the “wild” in our cockatiels.
You will not find a whiteface cockatiel here. You will find some pastel face but mostly normal grays that will be big and healthy.
I co parent my babies, so that they learn how to be birds but are still tame. If you want a needy bird, you will need to find a breeder that hand feeds. This is not the place for that.
I hope you will want to take this journey with me.
