🦷February is National Pet Dental Health Month! 🦷

At Cobblestone Veterinary Hospital, we know that a healthy mouth means a healthier pet! Poor dental care can lead to serious issues like gum disease and infections.

Here are some ways to keep your furry friend’s teeth in top shape:

Brush regularly with pet-safe toothpaste.
Use dental treats & toys to reduce plaque.
Book a checkup for a professional cleaning.

Taking care of your dog’s teeth should be as important as taking care of your own. Weekly brushing and regular exams at your local vet clinic will prevent tartar buildup and infections, keeping your dog happy and healthy. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns on your dog or cats teeth!

Your feline friend may have unique winter grooming needs! Cats may be expert self-groomers, but colder weather brings unique challenges—like extra shedding, dry skin, and even matted fur.

Here are a few quick tips to keep your cat cozy and comfortable all season long:

🐈 Brush More Often – Cats shed their summer coat in the fall, so regular brushing helps prevent mats and hairballs.
🐈Check Their Paws – If your kitty ventures outside, be sure to wipe their paws to remove salt and debris.
🐈Food for a Healthy Coat – Omega-rich foods keep their skin and fur looking its best!
🐈Watch Out for Static – Use a humidifier to reduce those pesky winter shocks.

Your cat’s health starts with proper grooming! If you have any concerns about your cat’s coat, joints, or overall well-being this winter, Cobblestone Veterinary Hospital is here to help. Give us a call or send us a text 810-985-3011 to schedule a wellness check-up today! 📞

January is officially recognized as Train Your Dog Month, a great reminder for pet owners to dedicate time and effort to training their dogs. Whether your dog is a new puppy, a rescue, or a seasoned companion, there are always benefits to improving communication, behavior, and overall well-being.

Snow, ice, and cold temperatures can create some challenges for outdoor dog training in the winter, however there are still opportunities like adjusting training for the indoors, focus on leash training, look for socializing opportunities, and providing rewards if your pet gets stressed during bad weather.

Before you begin dog obedience training, choose the best method for you and your dog. Training styles vary, but most trainers agree that dogs respond best to positive reinforcement, such as praise or treats.

If you have behavior with your pet that concerns you, look into training resources to help you get started this month. We are also always here as a resource, so set up an appointment by calling or texting us at 810-985-3011.

Our Story

Dr. Karen Pidick grew up in the Blue Water Area and has worked in the area for over 25 years to help our pets in St. Clair County. She did house calls on the side while still working at local clinics throughout her career. In 2009, we had a discussion and started a formal house call service that provided her with support and staffing. We started doing house calls just two afternoons a week and are now busy 5 days a week. We look forward to continuing to grow with you.

As a Veterinary House Call Service operating in St. Clair County, our veterinarian is able to perform all basic veterinary needs right in your home where you pet is most comfortable. For dogs and cats from Port Huron to Goodells or Marine City to Marysville, we travel the county so that you don’t have to. Most pets don’t like the trip to the vet, and it can be time consuming and stressful for you both. We make appointments in 2 hour increments. While you wait for us to come to you, you can do laundry or make dinner - or watch TV. Your furry friend has no stress at all and you’re able to do whatever you normally do at home. We find that most pets do better with examinations and procedures in the comfort of their own home. Also, during the visit, you have the veterinarian’s attention the entire time. There are no other patients to run out and see. There is no “in the back” for us to whisk your pet off to where you don’t see what is happening. All preventative care is possible and examinations for most illnesses that do not require urgent or emergency services are also available. We can do lab and blood work and x-rays right at your home. We have many medications on our van to be immediately dispensed, but we also call medications into local pharmacies and have a convenient online store and pharmacy as well. However, there will be times, much like an emergency room and hospital is needed occasionally, where you may be referred elsewhere for the best care. As we do not have a monetary relationship with any veterinary hospital, you can rest assured that when we refer you elsewhere it is strictly for your pet’s best interest. This is also true if we recommend a referral to a specialist. Much along the pattern of a primary care physician for people, we are the trusted family doctor that can take care of almost everything and help you navigate those more difficult issues along the way.

We get a lot of questions about cost. As with any business, we have to charge enough to make money to pay staff, buy equipment, products and services to better serve you and your pet. We do not have a charity wing or non-profit taking donations in order to pay our expenses. That being said, our prices are very reasonable. In most cases, even with the trip charge, most people tell us that it is no more expensive than taking the dog into the veterinary clinic. In some cases, we end up being less expensive. We do accept credit cards and CareCredit in addition to cash, check and debit for those that need to pay over time. We do no allow any balances. Please, be assured that our emphasis is on serving you and your pet. Let us know your budget up front and we will work within it and make suggestions from there.

As we continue to expand into the future, we look forward to meeting new people and pets in our area and continuing to offer compassionate, common - sense veterinary care to all of our clients and patients. Contact us for more information or to make an appointment:
