It is recommended that you keep your pets inside, just as a precaution. Animals can sense the change. Often birds will fall silent and even farm animals have been known to stay still.

Nearly 50% of the Sun will be covered by the Moon in Salt Lake City, per NASA's eclipse map. The eclipse is projected to begin at 11:25am and last until 1:40pm. The weather in Salt Lake is supposed to be mostly sunny.

The next solar eclipse isn’t until August 23, 2044!!!

This week we went outside to enjoy the reprieve from the cold and snow, and boy, were we unpleasantly surprised to see what was going on under the blanket of snow. Voles! A Google Earth capture from when we decided test Revive on a lawn in October. These pictures were taken on Christmas day. Can you tell which lawn we tested? 🔍

The key is to apply Revive before the plant starts to shut itself down for the winter. It works best if the grass is green & growing when you make the application. The iron in Revive, which plays a key role in the chlorophyll production of the plant, needs to be locked in before the plant goes dormant. You can’t turn a dormant brown lawn back into green in the winter, but you can maintain your green lawn in the winter with Revive!

If you didn't get to it this weekend, today would be ideal to water plantings to keep roots happy during the upcoming freezing temps. Plants don't need as much water during the winter, but dry roots and freezing temps can mean damaged plants.

When you think of Colorado you might imagine snow-capped mountains and white winters, but that's not always the case -- especially for us on the Front Range. This lack of moisture can be bad for plants and trees.

Trees look dormant during the Winter, but don't be fooled--their roots are still active! Keep your trees happy and healthy by hand watering them during dry weather.

Colorado soil, if you can call it that, has minimal nutrients to sustain healthy plant life. We like to use fallen leaves, with the addition of blood meal (found at your local garden center) to add carbon and nitrogen to your garden bed.

If you haven't already, run your lawn mower over fallen leaves and spread over garden beds and plantings. This will help insulate plants, and the leaves will break down over time to provide nutrient-rich material to your soil.

An application or two of blood meal in the springtime will help break down leaves faster (dead vegetation doesn't contain nitrogen, and nitrogen helps speed up the decomposition process).
