Sweet Ava 💖

She loves her afternoon nap! She spends the day out with her mom and they come in for dinner or when we think Ava has gotten too tired or hot. With one side of her airway occluded it is something we watch for but she really does well. She likes to cool off under the fan and we clipped her to help prevent overheating.

It was wonderful to be back in the basin this past week, and see that the horses were actually in pretty good shape. No worse than after most winters. I'm sure some of the older and younger ones didn't make it, but most winters have some losses. Mares with new foals were noticeably thin, and yes that is common in the spring as well. Grasses are coming up, and horses are eating non-stop. All should be in great shape soon, even the nursing moms.

There was some talk about him taking the pony through a puddle by the manure pile. We knew it wasn’t boggy or deep. That being said I admire him for seeing, not a manure pile, but rather a challenge (a mountain that needed to be climbed because it was there). Yes I’m sure the pony was unsure and didn’t want to step in it or even do it. But in life we are faced with manure piles we don’t want to go through but find we have to to get to where we are going. Also if you never rode pens in a feedlot or worked around cattle in general you wouldn’t understand why this is important to get them through this. In ain’t all groomed trails and arenas we ride on. Since this battle, and yes it was a battle, (as life is) both he and the pony have reached a whole new level of respect for each other. His confidence in her has increased but more importantly his confidence as a person has increased. So some times when life feels like your just walking through a manure pile it’s actually fertilizing you for growth…….think on that!
