Copper is finally back home with us again. It hurts all over again but I am glad to have him back. RIP my beautiful boy.
Copper is flying with the angels now. He is no longer in any pain and his suffering is finally over. We took him to get some cheeseburgers and spoiled him with his favorite treats before we went to the appointment. He didn't make it easy for them and was scared so they gave him sedation to help calm his anxiety which I appreciated. Romeo had to go with us because he never is away from me since he is a service dog and to give him closure as well so he is not looking around for him. They loved each other so much. He kept going up to Copper and licking his face. It was so sweet. We are at peace with our decision but the pain is not easy. My heart hurts and the house is so much more quiet. We brought him to a pet cremation service so we can keep him with us always and give the girls a memento to remember him by. Rest in peace boy. I hope we will see you again someday.
🌈 It's with a heavy heart that I post this...Copper has taken a sudden turn for the worse and has been slowly declining within the past few days and we made the very difficult decision to put him to sleep this afternoon. We took him to the vet and got treatment for him but despite our best efforts he isn't responding to any of the medications. He is having trouble going up and down stairs without falling, and has lost interest in playing with toys or even with his food or treats. He has lost control of his bladder and has peed all over the house including the chair he sleeps in. He didn't even bother to get up and just laid in it until morning. He is panting heavily and shaking all over despite taking heavy pain killers and anti inflammatory medication. He has tried to hide from us in different places like under the bed where he has never gone before. He has been winning here and there and yelps if I touch him even just to pet him. He is suffering and my husband and I along with the vet thinks it's the best time to put him out of his misery. He is just not himself at all. He doesn't want to be near anyone which isn't like him. He even gets lost in the yard. His eye sight is almost completely gone now and he bumps into walls. He just doesn't seem happy anymore. It's time to let our precious pup go. We love him so much and will cherish all the memories we have with him. We will miss him terribly. I know today is going to be rough for us all. 😭 I want to thank everyone for your support of Copper and our family. We have been so blessed to know him and love him. He will be missed. 🌈

As I get closer to the age of 13 years old, this is what I prefer to do on a rainy afternoon. Napping to me is my favorite pastime. Getting old is so hard and I feel tired a lot. I am slowing down each day and it is getting harder to climb the stairs so I take it slow. My mom and dad have been patient, kind and loving to me as sometimes I have an accident in the house. They do not scold me for it, but I still feel so bad. I just can't help it anymore. Mom likes to stroke my fur and tell me she loves me and that everything will be okay. I do have an occasional bout of energy and sometimes will play with my brother in the yard but it wears me out and I sleep afterwards. It's exhausting to be old. 🐾

It was mees brothers birthday today and we got to eat yummy treats together and sang hims the happy birthday song. I gave him lots of kisses and loves ❤️🥰 Happy 1st Birthday Romeo!!

Merry Christmas everyone!! ⛄🎄🎁🎅. It was a small one this year because money is tight but still a good one because of family. Thanks to my oldest for helping contribute. He also got a couple more toys that aren't in the picture but I can't find them because he already hid them. 🙄 I hope everyone has a safe and happy day 😊
Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I have been super busy running around and helping my daughter get ready for the new baby that's coming soon. Copper is doing great! He sleeps a lot but he does have his bursts of energy. It's pretty cold here now. Down in the 30s. I'm surprised there is no snow yet. Is everyone ready for the holidays?

Copper had IV fluids, was put on anti nausea medicine, put on a bland diet, also anti diarrhea medicine and only giving him a small amount of food at a time. They ran a bunch of tests but they said it all came back clear. The doctor said he suspects his stomach is just upset which is a relief because I thought it was so serious. The doctor thinks he is going to be just fine. I will keep you all posted in the next couple days and let everyone know how he is doing.
Copper had to go to the vet today because he had bloody diarrhea and was vomiting. A few days ago, I had to go set up my daughter's baby shower and unfortunately had to leave him to the hands of my other daughter and husband to lock up the house and came an hour after I did. They did the best they could to close all doors and make sure he had his Kong but they accidentally forgot about a bag of trash and he got into it and tore through everything. We have no idea what he ate but it made him pretty sick. He is getting testing done, blood work, diagnostic and x rays. I will keep you all posted....
There was a fat rat that was hanging around my house and trying to actually get in and I think it's because of all the pumpkins that are out now because our neighborhood is very clean cut and tidy so I have never seen one before. Well I opened my front door one day and there he was on the porch staring me right in the eyes. I screamed so loud and was terrified. I took Copper outside but he couldn't find him because he must have run. Well yesterday, I opened my side door to let the dogs out and he was right there, Copper bolted after him and I heard him screaming for his life because Copper got a hold of him. He did manage to get away but Copper was howling at him and trying to show me where he went. I don't know what happened to him after that because he never came back again. I think he figured that this is the wrong house 😂 I love my hunting dog. I mean we have 3 cats two are hunters because one is a barn cat and the other was a feral rescue and two hunting dogs one is a rater and is used to hunt rats back in the day. He is stupid for coming here. 😂
It just goes to show that sometimes getting a second opinion pays off. No wonder they wouldn't give me a written estimate at the old vet I went to. They wanted to charge me over $1900 to do the same surgery that is costing a little over $980 at the new vet. Even at the worst case scenario, at $1550 it's still much cheaper. They were afraid someone would call them out on it. Glad we left. And this new vet allowed me to be with him the entire time and has over 30 years of experience as a vet. He did a great job on Romeo's surgery so I know he will do great for Copper too. Copper was actually smiling when he left and they gave him treats too. I didn't hear him yelping in the back. They let me be with him the whole time and took the time to answer all of my questions without rushing me. It's a good feeling to have a great vet. Also the thing that really bugged me is he said eventually Copper's leg would have healed on its own but doing the surgery would make it heal faster. The other vet told me it would never heal on its own which was a straight up lie to get my money. He also said it doesn't appear that he is in any pain and doesn't need to be taking unnecessary medicine because it's not doing anything for him. I wonder how much money I have burned through this year paying more money than I should have for Romeo. I think back to all the medications they gave him and all the treatments they tried to give him that didn't work back when he was having all that diarrhea . All the sleep I lost and nights I cried over it because they didn't work and I trusted them. It just makes me mad. But at least now I'm in a good place. Live and learn.
I just got done at the vet and here is the estimate, the information and the follow up care that he will require. I feel you guys are entitled to this information since you donated to help out. I am shocked the previous vet wasn't willing to provide this info to you guys but I am happy the new vet did. I did however censor their name and information to protect them. I will be scheduling the surgery tomorrow morning.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that the vet called me a couple hours ago and informed me that they were able to speak to their doctor and unfortunately they do NOT accept donations to them directly. The reason they gave is that it would cause too much of a disruption to their practice and that for privacy reasons they were unable to. They did however say they would put together an estimate for you guys so I could show you what the cost would be and that way we can know just how close we are to being able to schedule it. Guys, I am working hard to save money but I only get paid once a month so anything will help me. We just want to get the surgery faster than I can. Even one dollar. As silly as that sounds if everyone donated a dollar, we would have the money. I love and appreciate you guys all so much for donating and to those that have believed in us, our cause and have continued to follow Copper and Romeo. I hope you all have a wonderful, fantastic day!!

Copper is doing well today! He is still limping and it is hard to keep him from getting too worked up. My husband and I have to really monitor him 24/7 to keep him quiet and on bed rest. He gets to play quietly on the bed with limitations and he has to stay put for the most part. He is trying to stay positive and he is getting extra attention. We love our Copper boy so much ♥️
